Journal Collection Development Tool Based on Impact Factor and Table of Contents Service
Journals are the most important source of information in
research work. This is especially true in the rapidly developing
areas of science and technology. However, budgetary
constraints and escalating costs of publications require that
selection of journals for the library be done in a systematic and
scientific manner. ‘Impact Factor’ is one of the means to find
out the quality of the journal. This information and the ‘Impact
factor’ for each journal can be made available on Intranet
along with information of the availability or non-availability of
the journal in the local library. This article focuses on work to
develop a tool for an effective selection of journal for the JRD
Tata Memorial Library (JRDL) of the Indian Institute of

A Pilot Study to develop an Ajirna Inventory in Grahanidosha, Amlapitta and Amavata
Introduction: Impairment of Agni, can be triggered by various factors such as the consumption of heavy and dry foods, ultimately leading to Ajirna. Proper diagnosis of Ajirna and its subtypes - Amajirna, Vidagdhajirna, and Vistabdhajirna - based on classical Lakshana is often limited in practice. Digestive disorders affect millions globally, causing economic burdens through healthcare costs, work absenteeism, and reduced quality of life. Thus, this study focuses on the practical challenges faced while deriving at diagnosis of Ajirna. In this regard a series of questions based on the Lakshana play a key role in accurate differentiation of the types of Ajirna and there by forming inventory for the same.
Methodology: The primary data sources included Ayurveda classical texts, contemporary books, articles, journals, and relevant web references. An Ajirna inventory is prepared by using review of Lakshana of Ajirna. Pilot study was carried out in Grahanidosha, Amlapitta, Amavata patients and findings were analysed.
Results: Vidagdhajirna symptoms were predominant in Amlapitta patients, while Samanya Ajirna symptoms were moderately high in Grahani dosha patients. Amajirna symptoms were minimal in Amavata patients
Discussion: The different types of Ajirna Lakshana highlight the involvement of specific Doshas and impaired Avasthapaka, leading to disrupted digestion and Dhatu nourishment
Barriers to electronic publishing of scholarly journals from India: Findings from the Scientific Journal Publishing in India (SJPI) Project
Scientific Journal Publishing in India (SJPI) was a project carried out at the National Center for Science Information (NCSI) of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. It was sponsored by the Asian Media and Information Centre, Singapore and was carried out in partnership with the Public Knowledge Project (PKP), Canada. Conducted from October 2004 to March 2007, SJPI’s objective was to demonstrate electronic publishing of journals through a prototype and disseminate the knowledge gained among the journal publishing community. We also developed a Hindi language interface for the Open Journals System (OJS), an open source e-journals publishing software. This article while briefly outlining the outcomes of the project, analyses the situation in India and lessons learned in the process. It specifically focuses on the problems faced by developing countries like India and suggests methods to overcome them
Mapping of two schemes of classification for software classification
SALIS is a repository of open source software along with metadata information. The objective is to empower the Indian academic and developer community to make informed decisions while using open source software. To enable organization and retrieval of the information stored in the repository, a modified CCS (Computing Classification Scheme) classification scheme by the ACM (Association of Computing Machinery) was used. Since a sizeable section of the end users community were familiar with the USPTO classification scheme, a need was felt to classify the software by USPTO scheme also. Instead of classifying by two schemes it was decided to have a mapping or a concordance between the two schemes so that the classification takes place semi-automatically. The approach used to derive a concordance between two diverse classification schemes is described in this paper
Scientific journal publishing in India: Promoting electronic publishing of scholarly journals in India
This article provides a report about the Scientific Journal Publishing in India (SJPI) Project which promotes electronic publishing of scholarly journals. It covers briefly the objectives, implementation and outcomes of the Project. Open Journal Systems and Open Archives Harvester were used to achieve the goals of the Project

Development of a Transparent Transgenic Zebrafish Cellular Phenotype Tg(6xNF-kB:EGFP); Casper(roy−/−, nacre−/−) to Study NF-kB Activity
NF-κB signaling has broad effects on cell survival, tissue growth, and proliferation activities. It controls many genes that are involved in inflammation and thus is a key player in many inflammatory diseases. The elevation of NF-κB activators is associated with elevated mortality, especially in cancer and cardiovascular diseases. The zebrafish has emerged as an important model for whole-organism in vivo modeling in translational research. In vertebrates, in-vivo spatial resolution is limited due to normal opacification of skin and subdermal structure. For in vivo imaging, skin transparency by blocking the pigmentation via chemical inhibition is required and the maintenance of this transparency is vital. The Casper(roy−/−, nacre−/−) mutant of zebrafish maintains this transparency throughout its life and serves as an ideal combination of sensitivity and resolution for in vivo stem cell analyses and imaging. We developed an NF-kB:GFP/Casper transparent transgenic zebrafish cellular phenotype to study inflammatory processes in vivo. We outline the experimental setup to generate a transparent transgenic NF-kB/Casper strain of zebrafish through the cross-breeding of Casper and NF-kB transgenic adult fish and have generated F01 in the form of heterozygous progeny. The transgenic F01 progeny was further inbred to generate heterozygous progenies from F1 to F4 generations. Furthermore, it continued to successfully develop the homozygous strain Tg(6xNF-kB:EGFP); Casper(roy−/−, nacre−/−) in the F05 generation. This novel strain of F05 generation showed 100% homozygosity in the transgenic transparent progeny of Tg(6xNF-kB:EGFP); Casper(roy−/−, nacre−/−). The strain has been confirmed by generating the F06 generation of homozygous progeny and again verified and validated for its homogeneity in the F07 generation. The newly developed novel transparent transgenic strain of the NF-kB reporter line has been coined as “Tg(6xNF-kB:EGFP); Casper(roy−/−, nacre−/−)gmc1”. We have established a newly generated phenotype of transparent transgenic zebrafish for time-lapse in vivo confocal microscopy to study the cellular phenotype and pathologies at the cellular level over time. This will allow for quantifying the changes in the NF-kB functional activities over time and allow the comparison of control and cardiac-oncology experimental therapeutics. We validated the newly developed Tg(6xNF-kB:EGFP); Casper(roy−/−, nacre−/−)gmc1 homozygous strain of zebrafish by studying the inflammatory response to bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) exposure, tolerance, and the inhibitory role of a potential novel drug candidate against LPS-induced inflammation. The results establish the unique application of newly developed strains by identifying hit and lead drug candidates for experimental therapeutics
