Determination of the magnetization profile of Co/Mg periodic multilayers by magneto-optic Kerr effect and X-ray magnetic resonant reflectivity
The resonant magnetic reflectivity of Co/Mg multilayers around the Co L2,3
absorption edge is simulated then measured on a specifically designed sample.
The dichroic signal is obtained when making the difference between the two
reflectivities measured with the magnetic field applied in two opposite
directions parallel to the sample surface. The simulations show that the
existence of magnetic dead layers at the interfaces between the Co and Mg
layers leads to an important increase of the dichroic signal measured in the
vicinity of the third Bragg peak that otherwise should be negligible. The
measurements are in agreement with the model introducing 0.25 nm thick dead
layers. This is attributed to the Co atoms in contact with the Mg layers and
thus we conclude that the Co-Mg interfaces are abrupt from the magnetic point

Two-photon imaging and quantum holography
It has been claimed that ``the use of entangled photons in an imaging system
can exhibit effects that cannot be mimicked by any other two-photon source,
whatever strength of the correlations between the two photons'' [A. F.
Abouraddy, B. E. A. Saleh, A. V. Sergienko, and M. C. Teich, Phys. Rev. Lett.
87, 123602 (2001)]. While we believe that the cited statement is true, we show
that the method proposed in that paper, with ``bucket detection'' of one of the
photons, will give identical results for entangled states as for appropriately

Quantum integrable multi atom matter-radiation models with and without rotating wave approximation
New integrable multi-atom matter-radiation models with and without rotating
wave approximation (RWA) are constructed and exactly solved through algebraic
Bethe ansatz. The models with RWA are generated through ancestor model approach
in an unified way. The rational case yields the standard type of
matter-radiaton models, while the trigonometric case corresponds to their
q-deformations. The models without RWA are obtained from the elliptic case at

Are inner disc misalignments common? ALMA reveals an isotropic outer disc inclination distribution for young dipper stars
Dippers are a common class of young variable star exhibiting day-long dimmings with depths of up to several tens of per cent. A standard explanation is that dippers host nearly edge-on (id ≈ 70°) protoplanetary discs that allow close-in (10 au) disc resolved by ALMA and that inner disc misalignments may be common during the protoplanetary phase. More than one mechanism may contribute to the dipper phenomenon, including accretion-driven warps and ‘broken’ discs caused by inclined (sub-)stellar or planetary companions
Perinatal outcomes of frequent attendance in midwifery care in the Netherlands: a retrospective cohort study
Background Over the last decade, a trend towards high utilisation of primary maternity care was observed in high-income countries. There is limited research with contradictory results regarding frequent attendance (FA) and perinatal outcomes in midwifery care. Therefore, this study examined possible associations between FA in midwifery care and obstetric interventions and perinatal outcomes. Methods A retrospective cohort study was performed in a medium-sized midwifery-led care practice in an urban region in the Netherlands. Frequent attenders (FAs) were categorised using the Kotelchuck-Index Revised. Regression analyses were executed to examine the relationship between FAs and perinatal outcomes, stratified by antenatal referral to an obstetrician. Main outcomes of interest were Apgar score ≤ 7 and perinatal death, birth weight, mode of delivery, haemorrhage, place of birth, transfer during labour, and a requirement for pain relief. Results The study included 1015 women, 239 (24%) FAs and 776 (76%) non-FAs, 538 (53%) were not referred and 447 (47%) were referred to an obstetrician. In the non-referred group, FA was significantly associated with a requirement for pain relief (OR 1.98, 95% CI 1.24–3.17) and duration of dilatation (OR 1.20, 95% CI 1.04–1.38). In the referred group, FA was significantly associated with induction of labour (OR 1.86, 95% CI 1.17–2.95), ruptured perineum (OR 0.50, 95% CI 0.27–0.95) and episiotomy (OR 0.48, 95% CI 0.24–0.95). In the non-referred and the referred group, FA was not associated with the other obstetric and neonatal outcomes. Due to small numbers, we could not measure possible associations of FA with an Apgar score ≤ 7 and perinatal death. Conclusion In our study, perinatal outcomes differed by FA and antenatal referral to an obstetrician. In the non-referred group, FA was significantly associated with medical pain relief and duration of dilatation. In the referred group, FA was significantly associated with induction of labour, ruptured perineum, and episiotomy. Further research with a larger study population is needed to look for a possible association between FA and primary adverse birth outcomes such as perinatal mortality
A study on text-score disagreement in online reviews
In this paper, we focus on online reviews and employ artificial intelligence
tools, taken from the cognitive computing field, to help understanding the
relationships between the textual part of the review and the assigned numerical
score. We move from the intuitions that 1) a set of textual reviews expressing
different sentiments may feature the same score (and vice-versa); and 2)
detecting and analyzing the mismatches between the review content and the
actual score may benefit both service providers and consumers, by highlighting
specific factors of satisfaction (and dissatisfaction) in texts.
To prove the intuitions, we adopt sentiment analysis techniques and we
concentrate on hotel reviews, to find polarity mismatches therein. In
particular, we first train a text classifier with a set of annotated hotel
reviews, taken from the Booking website. Then, we analyze a large dataset, with
around 160k hotel reviews collected from Tripadvisor, with the aim of detecting
a polarity mismatch, indicating if the textual content of the review is in
line, or not, with the associated score.
Using well established artificial intelligence techniques and analyzing in
depth the reviews featuring a mismatch between the text polarity and the score,
we find that -on a scale of five stars- those reviews ranked with middle scores
include a mixture of positive and negative aspects.
The approach proposed here, beside acting as a polarity detector, provides an
effective selection of reviews -on an initial very large dataset- that may
allow both consumers and providers to focus directly on the review subset
featuring a text/score disagreement, which conveniently convey to the user a
summary of positive and negative features of the review target.Comment: This is the accepted version of the paper. The final version will be

Binary black hole merger in the extreme mass ratio limit
We discuss the transition from quasi-circular inspiral to plunge of a system
of two nonrotating black holes of masses and in the extreme mass
ratio limit . In the spirit of the Effective One Body
(EOB) approach to the general relativistic dynamics of binary systems, the
dynamics of the two black hole system is represented in terms of an effective
particle of mass moving in a (quasi-)Schwarzschild
background of mass and submitted to an
radiation reaction force defined by Pad\'e resumming high-order Post-Newtonian
results. We then complete this approach by numerically computing, \`a la
Regge-Wheeler-Zerilli, the gravitational radiation emitted by such a particle.
Several tests of the numerical procedure are presented. We focus on
gravitational waveforms and the related energy and angular momentum losses. We
view this work as a contribution to the matching between analytical and

Estimating purity in terms of correlation functions
We prove a rigorous inequality estimating the purity of a reduced density
matrix of a composite quantum system in terms of cross-correlation of the same
state and an arbitrary product state. Various immediate applications of our
result are proposed, in particular concerning Gaussian wave-packet propagation

Evolution of entanglement under echo dynamics
Echo dynamics and fidelity are often used to discuss stability in quantum
information processing and quantum chaos. Yet fidelity yields no information
about entanglement, the characteristic property of quantum mechanics. We study
the evolution of entanglement in echo dynamics. We find qualitatively different
behavior between integrable and chaotic systems on one hand and between random
and coherent initial states for integrable systems on the other. For the latter
the evolution of entanglement is given by a classical time scale. Analytic

The potential role of G-CSF in stroke
O fator estimulador de colônias granulocitárias (G-CSF) é uma glicoproteína descrita há mais de vinte anos, e é largamente utilizada para tratamento de estados neutropênicos e no transplante de medula óssea. O G-CSF estimula células-tronco hematopoéticas e regula crucialmente a sobrevivência de neutrófilos maduros, pós-mitóticos, através da inibição da apoptose. Além do efeito sistêmico, mais recentemente tem-se demonstrado uma surpreendente atividade do G-CSF no sistema nervoso central. A administração de G-CSF mobiliza células-tronco e progenitoras da medula óssea para o sangue periférico, que, por sua vez, atravessa a barreira hemato-encefálica (BHE) e se dirige à área acometida do cérebro. A atividade do G-CSF no sistema nervoso central tem sido caracterizada como multimodal, pois, além do efeito mobilizador de células da medula óssea, demonstrou uma ação direta neuroprotetora através de diferentes mecanismos, tais como a atividade antiapoptótica em neurônios, regeneração da vascularização, efeito anti-inflamatório e estimulação da neurogênese endógena. Este relato sumariza a ação do G-CSF no sistema nervoso central e aborda seu potencial para o emprego no acidente vascular cerebral.The granulocyte colony-stimulating-factor (G-CSF) is a glycoproteina which has been described for decades, and it is commonly utilized in the treatment of neutropenic states and bone marrow transplants. G-CSF stimulates hematopoietic stem-cels e crucially regulates the survival of mature neutrophils through a mechanism of apoptosis inhibition. Beyond its systemic effect, recently it has been shown its surprising activity in the central nervous system (CNS). G-CSF administration mobilizes bone marrow stem cells para systemic blood, and those cells cross the blood-brain-barrier e target brain's damaged area. G-CSF's activity in the CNS has been defined as multimodal, because additionally it has been demonstrated a direct neuroprotective action through different mechanisms such as antiapoptotic activity, angiogenesis, anti-inflamatory effect, and stimulation of endogenous neurogenesis.
