Denial at the top table: status attributions and implications for marketing
Senior marketing management is seldom represented on the Board of Directors nowadays, reflecting a deteriorating status of the marketing profession. We examine some of the key reasons for marketing’s demise, and discuss how the status of marketing may be restored by demonstrating the value of marketing to the business community. We attribute marketing’s demise to several related key factors: narrow typecasting, marginalisation and limited involvement in product development, questionable marketing curricula, insensitivity toward environmental change, questionable professional standards and roles, and marketing’s apparent lack of accountability to CEOs. Each of these leads to failure to communicate, create, or deliver value within marketing. We argue that a continued inability to deal with marketing’s crisis of representation will further erode the status of the discipline both academically and professionally
Research Notes: Another major gene for resistance to Phytophthora megasperma var. sojae in soybeans
L62-904 has resistance (Table 1) to some races of Phytophthora megasperma var . sojae (Pms) . L62-904 was developed by Dr. R. L. Bernard at Urbana from Harosoy6 x T240; it was an F2 selection from an F1 - BC5 plant that was Ps ps W1 w1. It was used at Harrow as a w1w1 \u27Harosoy\u27 isoline with white flowers/green hypocotyls as a genetic marker in crosses before it was discovered to have Pms resistance
Research Notes : Soybean emergence in clay soil and tolerance to phytophthora rot
In 1979 at the Woodslee Soil Substation, 19 F2 populations were planted May 23 in single-row plots, 100 seeds per row, with 12 replications. These populations consisted of \u27Williams\u27 x \u27Wells\u27, and Williams and Wells each by \u27Adams\u27, \u27Beeson\u27, \u27Bonus\u27, \u27Galland\u27, \u27Corsoy\u27, \u27Cutler 71\u27, \u27Hark\u27, \u27Kanrich\u27 and \u27Prize\u27. The field had been in continuous soybeans since 1973 and is known to be infested predominantly with race 7 of Phytophthora mega-sperma f. sp. glycinea (Pmg)

How to Develop Strategic Management Competency: Reconsidering the Learning Goals and Knowledge Requirements of the Core Strategy Course
The dominance of theory-based approaches to strategy teaching has not displaced the need for core courses in strategic management to cultivate broader management skills. Yet, limited attention has been given to explicating, first, why we need to teach these skills, second, which skills we need to teach, and third how they can to be developed in the classroom. To help answer these three questions we need to understand the linkages between theory-based and skills-based approaches to strategy teaching. We begin with the proposition that the purpose of the core strategic management is to develop the strategic management competency of our students. We then adopt a systematic approach to identifying the why, what, and how components of strategic management competency. We show why analytical tools need to be complemented by judgment, insight, intuition, creativity, and social and communicative skills. We outline what these skills are and where they come from. Finally, we derive implications for how we should design and deliver of the core strategic management course
The "Persuadable Middle" on Same-Sex Marriage: Formative Research to Build Support among Heterosexual College Students
Same-sex marriage is a controversial policy issue that affects the welfare of gay and lesbian couples throughout the USA. Considerable research examines opinions about same-sex marriage; however, studies have not investigated the covariates of the “persuadable middle”— those individuals who are neutral or unsure about their views. This group of people is often the target of same-sex marriage campaigns, yet they have received no empirical attention.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/89607/1/Woodford et al 2011 Persuadable Middle.pd
