On the Thermodynamic Geometry of Hot QCD

We study the nature of the covariant thermodynamic geometry arising from the free energy of hot QCD. We systematically analyze the underlying equilibrium thermodynamic configurations of the free energy of 2- and 3-flavor hot QCD with or without including thermal fluctuations in the neighborhood of the QCD transition temperature. We show that there exists a well-defined thermodynamic geometric notion for QCD thermodynamics. The geometry thus obtained has no singularity as an intrinsic Riemannian manifold. We further show that there is a close connection of this geometric approach with the existing studies of correlations and quark number susceptibilities in hot QCD.Comment: 15 pages, 12 figures, Keywords: Thermodynamic Geometry, Hot QCD, Quasi-particles, PACS: 12.38.-t; 05.70.Fh; 02.40.Ky; 12.40.E

Coherent state triplets and their inner products

It is shown that if H is a Hilbert space for a representation of a group G, then there are triplets of spaces F_H, H, F^H, in which F^H is a space of coherent state or vector coherent state wave functions and F_H is its dual relative to a conveniently defined measure. It is shown also that there is a sequence of maps F_H -> H -> F^H which facilitates the construction of the corresponding inner products. After completion if necessary, the F_H, H, and F^H, become isomorphic Hilbert spaces. It is shown that the inner product for H is often easier to evaluate in F_H than F^H. Thus, we obtain integral expressions for the inner products of coherent state and vector coherent state representations. These expressions are equivalent to the algebraic expressions of K-matrix theory, but they are frequently more efficient to apply. The construction is illustrated by many examples.Comment: 33 pages, RevTex (Latex2.09) This paper is withdrawn because it contained errors that are being correcte

The purpose of this paper is to analyze work system improvements of home industries in Yogyakarta City, based on participatory ergonomics approach. WISH (Work Improvement for Safe Home) action checklisthas been used as the instrument to analyse and evaluate the working conditions. WISH programme isan action manual published by ILO (International Labour Organization) to improve work conditions ofhome manufacturing by using a participatory approach. The working conditions in WISH action checklistcovers five aspects; i.e. materials storage and handling, machine safety, work stations, physical environment, and welfare facilities and work organization. The early step in this study was identification of generalcharacteristics of home industries in Yogyakarta City. The results of identification were used as input indeveloping improvement actions. Analysis was done to determine the priority among all improvement aspectsand improvement actions based on WISH action checklist. The findings show the most priority aspect ofimprovement was Work Stations aspects with index priority 0.172. The action needed for the most priorityimprovement aspect was developed by consideration of home industries characteristics

Hydrogen absorption properties of amorphous (Ni0.6Nb0.4−yTay)100−xZrx membranes

Ni based amorphous materials have great potential as hydrogen purification membranes. In the present work the melt spun (Ni0.6Nb0.4−yTay)100−xZrx with y=0, 0.1 and x=20, 30 was studied. The result of X-ray diffraction spectra of the ribbons showed an amorphous nature of the alloys. Heating these ribbons below T < 400 °C, even in a hydrogen atmosphere (1−10 bar), the amorphous structure was retained. The crystallization process was characterized by differential thermal analysis and the activation energy of such process was obtained. The hydrogen absorption properties of the samples in their amorphous state were studied by the volumetric method, and the results showed that the addition of Ta did not significantly influence the absorption properties, a clear change of the hydrogen solubility was observed with the variation of the Zr content. The values of the hydrogenation enthalpy changed from ~37 kJ/mol for x=30 to ~9 kJ/mol for x=20. The analysis of the volumetric data provides the indications about the hydrogen occupation sites during hydrogenation, suggesting that at the beginning of the absorption process the deepest energy levels are occupied, while only shallower energy levels are available at higher hydrogen content, with the available interstitial sites forming a continuum of energy levels

Eleven years of radio monitoring of the Type IIn supernova SN 1995N

We present radio observations of the optically bright Type IIn supernova SN 1995N. We observed the SN at radio wavelengths with the Very Large Array (VLA) for 11 years. We also observed it at low radio frequencies with the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) at various epochs within 6.5106.5-10 years since explosion. Although there are indications of an early optically thick phase, most of the data are in the optically thin regime so it is difficult to distinguish between synchrotron self absorption (SSA) and free-free absorption (FFA) mechanisms. However, the information from other wavelengths indicates that the FFA is the dominant absorption process. Model fits of radio emission with the FFA give reasonable physical parameters. Making use of X-ray and optical observations, we derive the physical conditions of the shocked ejecta and the shocked CSM.Comment: 22 pages, 2 tables, 13 figures, Accepted for publication in Astrophysical Journa

153 MHz GMRT follow-up of steep-spectrum diffuse emission in galaxy clusters

In this paper we present new high sensitivity 153 MHz Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope follow-up observations of the diffuse steep spectrum cluster radio sources in the galaxy clusters Abell 521, Abell 697, Abell 1682. Abell 521 hosts a relic, and together with Abell 697 it also hosts a giant very steep spectrum radio halo. Abell 1682 is a more complex system with candidate steep spectrum diffuse emission. We imaged the diffuse radio emission in these clusters at 153 MHz, and provided flux density measurements of all the sources at this frequency. Our new flux density measurements, coupled with the existing data at higher frequencies, allow us to study the total spectrum of the halos and relic over at least one order of magnitude in frequency. Our images confirm the presence of a very steep "diffuse component" in Abell 1682. We found that the spectrum of the relic in Abell 521 can be fitted by a single power-law with α=1.45±0.02\alpha=1.45\pm0.02 from 153 MHz to 5 GHz. Moreover, we confirm that the halos in Abell 521 and Abell 697 have a very steep spectrum, with α=1.81.9\alpha=1.8-1.9 and α=1.52±0.05\alpha=1.52\pm0.05 respectively. Even with the inclusion of the 153 MHz flux density information it is impossible to discriminate between power-law and curved spectra, as derived from homogeneous turbulent re-acceleration. The latter are favored on the basis of simple energetic arguments, and we expect that LOFAR will finally unveil the shape of the spectra of radio halos below 100 MHz, thus providing clues on their origin.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures, 3 tables, accepted for publication in A&

A Semi-Classical Analysis of Order from Disorder

We study in this paper the Heisenberg antiferromagnet with nearest neighbours interactions on the Husimi cactus, a system which has locally the same topology as the Kagom\'e lattice. This system has a huge classical degeneracy corresponding to an extensive number of degrees of freedom. We show that unlike thermal fluctuations, quantum fluctuations lift partially this degeneracy and favour a discrete subset of classical ground states. In order to clarify the origin of these effects, we have set up a general semi-classical analysis of the order from disorder phenomenon and clearly identified the differences between classical and quantum fluctuations. This semi-classical approach also enables us to classify various situations where a selection mechanism still occurs. Moreover, once a discrete set of ground states has been preselected, our analysis suggests that tunelling processes within this set should be the dominant effect underlying the strange low energy spectrum of Kagom\'e-like lattices.Comment: 49 pages, Latex, 12 PS figure
