In-Line-Test of Variability and Bit-Error-Rate of HfOx-Based Resistive Memory
Spatial and temporal variability of HfOx-based resistive random access memory
(RRAM) are investigated for manufacturing and product designs. Manufacturing
variability is characterized at different levels including lots, wafers, and
chips. Bit-error-rate (BER) is proposed as a holistic parameter for the write
cycle resistance statistics. Using the electrical in-line-test cycle data, a
method is developed to derive BERs as functions of the design margin, to
provide guidance for technology evaluation and product design. The proposed BER
calculation can also be used in the off-line bench test and build-in-self-test
(BIST) for adaptive error correction and for the other types of random access

An approximate model for cancellous bone screw fixation

Copyright @ 2013 Taylor & Francis.This paper presents a finite element (FE) model to identify parameters that affect the performance of an improved cancellous bone screw fixation technique, and hence potentially improve fracture treatment. In cancellous bone of low apparent density, it can be difficult to achieve adequate screw fixation and hence provide stable fracture fixation that enables bone healing. Data from predictive FE models indicate that cements can have a significant potential to improve screw holding power in cancellous bone. These FE models are used to demonstrate the key parameters that determine pull-out strength in a variety of screw, bone and cement set-ups, and to compare the effectiveness of different configurations. The paper concludes that significant advantages, up to an order of magnitude, in screw pull-out strength in cancellous bone might be gained by the appropriate use of a currently approved calcium phosphate cement
The “floating forearm” injury in a child: a case report
The case of a eleven-year-old girl who had a fracture dislocation of the left elbow with entrapment of the ulnar nerve into the dislocated ulnar epicondyle anlage and unstable forearm fracture of the ipslateral upper extremity is described. This severe injury to the elbow and the ipsilateral forearm is termed “floating forearm” injury. The forearm was stabilized percutaneously and the elbow fracture dislocation, remaining unstable after internal fixation was treated with a pediatric elbow fixator with motion capacity
Diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson´s disease (guideline of the German Society for Neurology)
Introduction : The aim of this German national guideline is to optimize the clinical care of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) in terms of diagnostics, drug and surgical treatment and care. Summary or definition of the topic : This guidance was prepared for the German Society of Neurology (DGN) in collaboration with the Austrian Society of Neurology (ÖGN) and the Swiss Neurological Society (SNG) for German-speaking countries. The guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of PD have been revised by a national expert group and the guideline commission of the DGN at S2k level. The main objective of these guidelines is to optimize the clinical care of PD patients regarding diagnosis, including early detection, technical diagnostic examinations, and pharmacological as well as invasive treatment options. Recommendations : The updated PD diagnosis and treatment guidelines are emphasizing optimized clinical care. Key revisions include preferring the name "Parkinson's disease" over previous terms and adopting International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS) diagnostic criteria. Recommendations cover genetic and imaging diagnostics, initial pharmacotherapy considering efficacy and patient factors, and tailored pharmacological combinations for complications. Guidelines extend to managing cognitive, affective, psychotic, and autonomic symptoms, along with non-oral therapies like pump therapy and deep brain stimulation. Definition and diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease
Background : Accurate definition and operational criteria for diagnosing Parkinson’s disease (PD) are crucial for evidence-based, patient-centered care. Objective : To offer evidence-based recommendations for defining and diagnosing PD, incorporating contemporary clinical, imaging, biomarker, and genetic insights. Methods : The guideline development began with the steering committee establishing key PICO (patient, intervention, comparison, outcome) questions, which were refined by the coauthors. Systematic literature searches identified relevant studies, reviews, and meta-analyses. Recommendations were drafted, evaluated, optimized, and voted upon by the German Parkinson’s Guideline Group. Results : Parkinson’s disease (PD) is now understood to encompass a broader spectrum of etiologies than previously recognized. Advances in molecular pathogenesis, neuroimaging, and early clinical phenotypes suggest that PD is not a uniform disease entity and is often not idiopathic. This necessitates an updated framework for PD definition and diagnosis. The German Society for Neurology now endorses a broader concept of PD, incorporating both idiopathic and hereditary forms, as opposed to the previously narrower concept of “idiopathic Parkinson syndrome.” The revised guidelines recommend using the 2015 Movement Disorders Society diagnostic criteria, emphasize the importance of long-term clinical follow-up for improved diagnostic accuracy, and highlight the significance of non-motor symptoms in clinical diagnosis. Specific recommendations are provided for the use of imaging and fluid biomarkers and genetic testing to support the clinical diagnosis. Pharmacotherapy of motor symptoms in early and mid-stage Parkinson’s disease
Background and objective : There are multiple pharmacological treatment options for motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease (PD). These comprise multiple drug classes which are approved for the condition, including levodopa, dopamine agonists, COMT inhibitors, MAO-B inhibitors, NMDA-receptor antagonists, anticholinergics, and others. Some of the drugs are approved for monotherapy and combination therapy while others are only approved as adjunctive therapy to levodopa. Furthermore, treatment for special treatment situations, e.g., rescue medication for off-phases, for tremor, treatment during pregnancy and breast feeding is discussed and recommendations are given with further details. Methods : The recommendations were based on systematic literature reviews, drafted by expert teams, consented in online polls followed by online consensus meetings of the whole German Parkinson’s Guideline Group, and publicly released in November 2023. Results : In the new S2k (i.e., consensus-based) guidelines, the pharmacotherapy of the motor symptoms of PD is discussed in five chapters. These comprise “Parkinson medication”, “Initial monotherapy”, “Early combination therapy”, “Fluctuations and dyskinesia”, and “Parkinsonian tremor”. Furthermore, there is a chapter for special treatment situations, including perioperative management, freezing of gait, and pregnancy and breastfeeding. Conclusion : The recommendations for the pharmacotherapy of motor symptoms of PD have been updated. Newly available drugs have been added, while other drugs (e.g., ergoline dopamine agonists, anticholinergics, budipine) have been removed from the recommendations
Diagnostics and treatment of impulse control disorders, psychosis and delirium: systemic review-based recommendations: guideline “Parkinson’s disease” of the German Society of Neurology
Background and objective : Impulse control disorders (ICD), psychosis and delirium are part of the spectrum of behavioural changes associated with Parkinson’s disease (PD). The diagnostic and therapeutic management of these rather complex neuropsychiatric conditions has been updated in the clinical guideline by the German Society of Neurology (DGN). Methods : Recommendations are based on a systematic literature reviews, other relevant guidelines and expert opinion. Results : Patients receiving dopamine agonists (DA) therapy should be informed about the symptoms and risks of an ICD and should be routinely screened for ICD symptoms. In the presence of an ICD, DA should be reduced or discontinued and psychotherapeutic treatment may be considered. Non-oral therapies (levodopa/carbidopa intestinal gel infusion or deep brain stimulation) may also be an option for appropriate candidates. Psychosis in PD often has a gradual onset. Cognitive and affective disorders, psychiatric and medical comorbidities as well as polypharmacy are risk factors for a psychosis. Non-pharmacological treatments should be implemented as soon as possible and anti-parkinsonian medications should be adjusted/reduced if feasible. For psychosis associated with PD, quetiapine or clozapine should be used on an as-needed basis and for as short a time as is necessary, with safety monitoring. Delirium in PD may be underdiagnosed due to an overlap with chronic neuropsychiatric features of PD. Although transient by definition, delirium in PD can lead to permanent cognitive decline, motor impairment and increased mortality. Management of delirium includes pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions. Conclusion : The updated guideline encompasses the evidence-based diagnostic, non-pharmacological and pharmacological management of ICD, psychosis and delirium in PD
