Executive Functions During Submaximal Exercises in Male Athletes : Role of Blood Lactate
The present study was carried out among 20 healthy young male athletes to determine whether aerobic exercise performed at two different intensities is able to affect executive functions. For this purpose, we used the Stroop Color Word Test (SCWT) to evaluate the ability to inhibit cognitive interference and the Trail Making Test (TMT) to assess organized visual search, set shifting, and cognitive flexibility. Simple Reaction Time (RT), as a measure of perception and response execution, was also evaluated. The experimental protocol included the measure of blood lactate levels with the aim of assessing possible relations between lactate blood values and selected executive functions after a 30-min steady-state test performed at 60% and at 80% of VO2max. The results showed that a 30-min aerobic exercise is not associated with a worsening of executive functions as long as the blood lactate levels stay within the 4 mmol/l threshold
CONCERTO: Simulating the CO, [CII], and [CI] line emission of galaxies in a 117 deg2 field and the impact of field-to-field variance
In the submillimeter regime, spectral line scans and line intensity mapping (LIM) are new promising probes for the cold gas content and star formation rate of galaxies across cosmic time. However, both of these two measurements suffer from field-to-field variance. We study the effect of field-to-field variance on the predicted CO and [CII] power spectra from future LIM experiments such as CONCERTO, as well as on the line luminosity functions (LFs) and the cosmic molecular gas mass density that are currently derived from spectral line scans. We combined a 117 deg2 dark matter lightcone from the Uchuu cosmological simulation with the simulated infrared dusty extragalactic sky (SIDES) approach. The clustering of the dusty galaxies in the SIDES-Uchuu product is validated by reproducing the cosmic infrared background anisotropies measured by Herschel and Planck. We find that in order to constrain the CO LF with an uncertainty below 20%, we need survey sizes of at least 0.1 deg2. Furthermore, accounting for the field-to-field variance using only the Poisson variance can underestimate the total variance by up to 80%. The lower the luminosity is and the larger the survey size is, the higher the level of underestimate. At z < 3, the impact of field-to-field variance on the cosmic molecular gas density can be as high as 40% for the 4.6 arcmin2 field, but drops below 10% for areas larger than 0.2 deg2. However, at z > 3 the variance decreases more slowly with survey size and for example drops below 10% for 1 deg2 fields. Finally, we find that the CO and [CII] LIM power spectra can vary by up to 50% in 1 deg2 fields. This limits the accuracy of the constraints provided by the first 1 deg2 surveys. In addition the level of the shot noise power is always dominated by the sources that are just below the detection thresholds, which limits its potential for deriving number densities of faint [CII] emitters. We provide an analytical formula to estimate the field-to-field variance of current or future LIM experiments given their observed frequency and survey size. Use of Cefiderocol in Adult Patients: Descriptive Analysis from a Prospective, Multicenter, Cohort Study
IntroductionCefiderocol is a siderophore cephalosporin showing activity against various carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative bacteria (CR-GNB). No data currently exist about real-world use of cefiderocol in terms of types of therapy (e.g., empirical or targeted, monotherapy or combined regimens), indications, and patient characteristics.MethodsIn this multicenter, prospective study, we aimed at describing the use of cefiderocol in terms of types of therapy, indications, and patient characteristics.ResultsCefiderocol was administered as empirical and targeted therapy in 27.5% (55/200) and 72.5% (145/200) of cases, respectively. Overall, it was administered as monotherapy in 101/200 cases (50.5%) and as part of a combined regimen for CR-GNB infections in the remaining 99/200 cases (49.5%). In multivariable analysis, previous isolation of carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii odds ratio (OR) 2.56, with 95% confidence interval (95% CI) 1.01-6.46, p = 0.047] and previous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (OR 8.73, 95% CI 1.05-72.54, p = 0.045) were associated with administration of cefiderocol as part of a combined regimen, whereas chronic kidney disease was associated with cefiderocol monotherapy (OR 0.38 for combined regimen, 95% CI 0.16-0.91, p = 0.029). Cumulative 30-day mortality was 19.8%, 45.0%, 20.7%, and 22.7% in patients receiving targeted cefiderocol for infections by Enterobacterales, A. baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and any metallo-beta-lactamase producers, respectively.ConclusionsCefiderocol is mainly used for targeted treatment, although empirical therapies account for more than 25% of prescriptions, thus requiring dedicated standardization and guidance. The almost equal distribution of cefiderocol monotherapy and cefiderocol-based combination therapies underlines the need for further study to ascertain possible differences in efficacy between the two approaches
Cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, and diabetes mortality burden of cardiometabolic risk factors from 1980 to 2010: A comparative risk assessment
Background: High blood pressure, blood glucose, serum cholesterol, and BMI are risk factors for cardiovascular diseases and some of these factors also increase the risk of chronic kidney disease and diabetes. We estimated mortality from cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney disease, and diabetes that was attributable to these four cardiometabolic risk factors for all countries and regions from 1980 to 2010. Methods: We used data for exposure to risk factors by country, age group, and sex from pooled analyses of population-based health surveys. We obtained relative risks for the effects of risk factors on cause-specific mortality from meta-analyses of large prospective studies. We calculated the population attributable fractions for each risk factor alone, and for the combination of all risk factors, accounting for multicausality and for mediation of the effects of BMI by the other three risks. We calculated attributable deaths by multiplying the cause-specific population attributable fractions by the number of disease-specific deaths. We obtained cause-specific mortality from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors 2010 Study. We propagated the uncertainties of all the inputs to the final estimates. Findings: In 2010, high blood pressure was the leading risk factor for deaths due to cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney disease, and diabetes in every region, causing more than 40% of worldwide deaths from these diseases; high BMI and glucose were each responsible for about 15% of deaths, and high cholesterol for more than 10%. After accounting for multicausality, 63% (10·8 million deaths, 95% CI 10·1-11·5) of deaths from these diseases in 2010 were attributable to the combined effect of these four metabolic risk factors, compared with 67% (7·1 million deaths, 6·6-7·6) in 1980. The mortality burden of high BMI and glucose nearly doubled from 1980 to 2010. At the country level, age-standardised death rates from these diseases attributable to the combined effects of these four risk factors surpassed 925 deaths per 100 000 for men in Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Mongolia, but were less than 130 deaths per 100 000 for women and less than 200 for men in some high-income countries including Australia, Canada, France, Japan, the Netherlands, Singapore, South Korea, and Spain. Interpretation: The salient features of the cardiometabolic disease and risk factor epidemic at the beginning of the 21st century are high blood pressure and an increasing effect of obesity and diabetes. The mortality burden of cardiometabolic risk factors has shifted from high-income to low-income and middle-income countries. Lowering cardiometabolic risks through dietary, behavioural, and pharmacological interventions should be a part of the global response to non-communicable diseases. Fish assemblages in a coastal bay adjacent to a network of marine protected areas in southern Brazil
Abstract Baía Norte (North Bay) in Santa Catarina State is considered a typical coastal bay and is surrounded by a network of Marine Protected Areas. The objectives of this study were to describe the composition of the demersal fish assemblage, identify seasonal and spatial structures on a fine scale and evaluate the role of habitat descriptors and abiotic variables affecting the fish assemblage structure. Seasonal samplings were conducted in 2005, using bottom trawls in six pre-established areas in Baía Norte in summer, fall, winter and spring. Simultaneously with each trawl, environmental data were collected with a multiparameter probe. Temporal and spatial differences in fish abundance were tested by a PERMANOVA. To illustratethe differences detected graphically we ran a canonical analysis of principal coordinates (CAP). The influence of environmental variables on the fish fauna was evaluated using a Distant Based Linear Model (DistLM) with Akaike's information criterion (AIC). A total of 9,888 specimens, distributed in 27 families and 62 species, were collected. Citharichthys spilopterus was the most abundant species. PERMANOVA detected differences for abundance between seasons, areas and interaction among all the factors. The DISTLM selected temperature and pH. The results highlight seasonality as an important factor in the structuring of fish fauna of the study place
Invariant NKT cell anergy is induced by a strong TCR-mediated signal plus co-stimulation.
Vα14 TCR expressing invariant NK T (iNKT) cells recognize α-galactosylceramide (αGC)/CD1d complex and produce large amounts of various cytokines before the onset of the adaptive immunity. After stimulation with a high dose (2-5 μg) of αGC in vivo, iNKT cells in the spleen and liver become anergic in terms of the proliferation and cytokine production to subsequent stimulation. In this study, we monitor how iNKT anergy is induced. Anergized iNKT cells dramatically reduced the expression of IL-2Rα, and exogenous IL-2 restored the ability to proliferate and produce IL-4 but not to produce IFN-γ. Anergized iNKT cells expressed high levels of programmed death-1 (PD-1). However, iNKT cells in PD-1-deficient mice became anergic as a result of αGC injection, as do normal mice. Furthermore, anti-PD-1 blocking mAb was unable to restore their responsiveness. When iNKT cells were stimulated with immobilized anti-CD3 in the presence or absence of anti-CD28, they produced cytokines in a dose-dependent manner. Unlike in naive CD4 T cells, the strong TCR-mediated signaling with co-stimulation renders them anergic to any subsequent stimulation with αGC and spleen dendritic cells (DCs). Moreover, iNKT cells also became anergic after stimulation with phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate + ionophore. Finally, the injection of αGC-pulsed DCs was more potent in inducing anergy than B cells. These results indicate that strong TCR-mediated activation with co-stimulation provides signals that induce the anergic state in iNKT cells

A tale of two communities; The characterization of an urban neighborhood for community issues and urban forests in East Cleveland from two different stakeholders.
Geospatial narrative was developed as a qualitative GIS approach to extend current GIS data capture capabilities. This method allows the integration of narrative interpretation with GIS to understand ephemeral and physical qualities of a location. This methodology can help assess the quality of a community and identify issues. The issues monitored by stakeholders can include failing infrastructure, vacancy, and crime for the community and disease, poor maintenance, and vandalism for urban forests. With geospatial narrative these issues can be mapped and analyzed. This project will study two geospatial narratives, from urban forestry and community stakeholders, in East Cleveland. A correlation will be determined from the data collected from the two narratives by extracting a set of keywords from each narrative. This data will assess the quality of a neighborhood and the urban forest. The project will determine whether geospatial narratives are reliable alternatives available to use for site analysis. Mapping the data from the narrative will identify a relationship with the quality of a neighborhood and the existing urban forest. This project will consult primary sources that have previously used geospatial narrative to understand methodology and results. This data offers a more considerate analysis for planning and design. Converting the stakeholder’s assessment and input into mapped data, allows for a more holistic and complete analysis of the site, which can increase the overall success of the design
Digitalization as an enabler of the Circular Economy of electronics
To facilitate the transition from a linear to a circular economy there is a need to develop digital tools that can provide comprehensive and useful data to enhance repair, remanufacturing, reuse, and recycling. This paper explains the typology of information key for such end, it discusses the current limitations and difficulties to implement methods in a digital platform, and a description of already existing digital solutions that will be further improved in the context of the DigiPrime project. A preliminary analysis of the availability and accessibility of information about electronics is required before the definition of a digital tool to support circular economy. First, the paper discusses the need of 'digitalized' end 'standardized' information of electronics to promote circular strategies. Then, diverse digitalization approaches by several teams of the Digiprime project are detailed. The paper concludes with a description of the next steps needed to align the diverse digitalization approaches and its potential contribution to improve the electronics sector
