Quality related communication approaches for organic food
As food quality becomes more complex, consumer s are tending to reduce their involvement in the food purchase decision- making process. Consequently, prices are becoming more significant as they represent an easy choice criterion when consumer s have less information about the differences between the product and process quality inherent in food items (including environmental or social issues). The organic food sector provides high, complex food quality profiles and has therefore been seriously affected by this development. Consequently some SMEs in the food business sector are starting to emphasize certain quality factors, such as sustainable production and processing, as a means of communicating their added value to consumer s. Based on published scientific and unpublished literature, this paper provides an overview of the main instrument s and media of communication on food quality, illustrated by case studies. It also present s the results of a test by means of an information display matrix, conducted in order to analyse the consumer information and quality assessment behaviour involved in apple purchase in Switzerland. CaII and NaI absorption signatures from the circumgalactic gas of the Milky Way
We combine CaII/NaI absorption and HI 21 cm emission line measurements to
analyse the metal abundances, the distribution, the small-scale structure, and
the physical conditions of intermediate- and high-velocity gas in the Galactic

Ionized Gas in the Galactic Center: New Observations and Interpretation
We present new observations of the [Ne II] emission from the ionized gas in
Sgr A West with improved resolution and sensitivity. About half of the emission
comes from gas with kinematics indicating it is orbiting in a plane tipped
about 25\degree\ from the Galactic plane. This plane is consistent with that
derived previously for the circumnuclear molecular disk and the northern arm
and western arc ionized features. However, unlike most previous studies, we
conclude that the ionized gas is not moving along the ionized features, but on
more nearly circular paths. The observed speeds are close to, but probably
somewhat less than expected for orbital motions in the potential of the central
black hole and stars and have a small inward component. The spatial
distribution of the emission is well fitted by a spiral pattern. We discuss
possible physical explanations for the spatial distribution and kinematics of
the ionized gas, and conclude that both may be best explained by a one-armed
spiral density wave, which also accounts for both the observed low velocities
and the inward velocity component. We suggest that a density wave may result
from the precession of elliptical orbits in the potential of the black hole and

Metal-Insulator Transition of the LaAlO3-SrTiO3 Interface Electron System
We report on a metal-insulator transition in the LaAlO3-SrTiO3 interface
electron system, of which the carrier density is tuned by an electric gate
field. Below a critical carrier density n_c ranging from 0.5-1.5 * 10^13/cm^2,
LaAlO3-SrTiO3 interfaces, forming drain-source channels in field-effect devices
are non-ohmic. The differential resistance at zero channel bias diverges within
a 2% variation of the carrier density. Above n_c, the conductivity of the ohmic
channels has a metal-like temperature dependence, while below n_c conductivity
sets in only above a threshold electric field. For a given thickness of the
LaAlO3 layer, the conductivity follows a sigma_0 ~(n - n_c)/n_c characteristic.
The metal-insulator transition is found to be distinct from that of the
semiconductor 2D systems.Comment: 4 figure
Learning Dilation Factors for Semantic Segmentation of Street Scenes
Contextual information is crucial for semantic segmentation. However, finding
the optimal trade-off between keeping desired fine details and at the same time
providing sufficiently large receptive fields is non trivial. This is even more
so, when objects or classes present in an image significantly vary in size.
Dilated convolutions have proven valuable for semantic segmentation, because
they allow to increase the size of the receptive field without sacrificing
image resolution. However, in current state-of-the-art methods, dilation
parameters are hand-tuned and fixed. In this paper, we present an approach for
learning dilation parameters adaptively per channel, consistently improving
semantic segmentation results on street-scene datasets like Cityscapes and

We investigate the spin 1/2 Heisenberg star introduced in J. Richter and A.
Voigt, J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. {\bf 27}, 1139 (1994). The model is defined by
; , . In extension to the Ref. we consider a more general
describing the properties of the spins surrounding the
central spin . The Heisenberg star may be considered as an essential
structure element of a lattice with frustration (namely a spin embedded in a
magnetic matrix ) or, alternatively, as a magnetic system with a
perturbation by an extra spin. We present some general features of the
eigenvalues, the eigenfunctions as well as the spin correlation of the model. For being a linear chain, a square
lattice or a Lieb-Mattis type system we present the ground state properties of
the model in dependence on the frustration parameter .
Furthermore the thermodynamic properties are calculated for being a

Sampling functions for multimode homodyne tomography with a single local oscillator
We derive various sampling functions for multimode homodyne tomography with a
single local oscillator. These functions allow us to sample multimode
s-parametrized quasidistributions, density matrix elements in Fock basis, and
s-ordered moments of arbitrary order directly from the measured quadrature
statistics. The inevitable experimental losses can be compensated by proper
modification of the sampling functions. Results of Monte Carlo simulations for
squeezed three-mode state are reported and the feasibility of reconstruction of
the three-mode Q-function and s-ordered moments from 10^7 sampled data is
