This essay asserts that advocacy work outside of the communication center was valuable not only to the Greensboro Community but also to the Speaking Center consultants who volunteered, and that similar opportunities should therefore be afforded to employees at other speaking centers as well.
An immunological comparison of animal-grown and broth-grown shigella flexneri types lb and 3
Thesis (Ph.D.)--Boston University.
Bibliography: p. 116-125.It has been observed by many investigators that most persons seemed to possess an increased resistance to bacillary dysentery following recovery from this disease. However, shigella vaccines made from in vitro-grown organisms did not increase resistance to dysentery. The purpose of the present investigation was to determine whether or not Shigella flexneri produced antigens in the in vivo environment formed by culture-grown organisms which might resistance to reinfection.
Immunological comparison of animal- and broth-grown Shigella flexneri types 1b and 3 involved comparing the agglutination reactions of animal- and broth-grown organisms and comparing their antigenic structures by means of the agar-diffusion precipitin technique. Antisera were prepared in rabbits by immunisation with either acetone-killed broth-grown organisms or viable organisms grown intra-abdominally in mice for three serial passages without culture. Antisera were absorbed with broth-grown Shigella flexneri of various types. Animal-grown Shigella flexneri were prepared by inoculating mice and guinea pigs with organisms suspended in neutralized streile 5 per cent mucin solution. The organisms were recovered by injecting intra-abdominally 0.15 M sodium chloride and aspirating the organisms with a needle and syringe. The resulting organisms were identified both serologically and culturally. Guinea pig-grown organisms were used for test antigens, whereas the mouse-grown organisms were used only for antiserum production in order to eliminate the possibility of reactions between normal guinea pig protein and antibody to mouse proteins. Saline solutions of water extracts of acetone-dried organisms were employed for the agar-diffusion precipitate stdies. [TRUNCATED
Communication activities of the sports club FC Barcelona in 2010-2011
V práci rozebírám hlavní důvody popularity sportu jako takového a dále popisuji jednotlivé části marketingového mixu klubu - produkt, místo, cenu a propagaci. The aim of the thesis "Communication activities of the sports club FC Barcelona in 2009- 2011" was to describe and analyze the main elements within the marketing communications causing the fact that FC Barcelona is one of the most valuable brands in the area of European football clubs. The technique of the process is description. I analyze the main reasons of the popularity of sport itself and furthermore I describe each part of the club's marketing mix - product, place, price and promotion. The club's history and its mythology are the most important descriptions of the organization, because the values and brand identity naturally evolve from it. I attempt to introduce social and political overlap of a sports club, in the Czech environment unparalleled. In the analysis of tools of promotion, I mainly focused on online marketing, which can reach the whole world. In addition, separate chapters are devoted to sponsorship, which is crucial in sports marketing, and the Foundation FC Barcelona, through which the club exercises its corporate social responsibility.Department of Marketing Communication and Public RelationsKatedra marketingové komunikace a public relationsFaculty of Social SciencesFakulta sociálních vě
Morse Decoder
This bachelor thesis deals with audio signal processing in real time. Its goal is to create a Morse code compiler that will print the broadcast text in parallel with the audio output. The whole work is written in MATLAB using mainly Audio toolbox and DSP System Toolbox. The solution of the problem is divided into two parts: the reception of the signal in real time and its subsequent processing and conversion of the received signal into text
Society's readiness for cannabis legalization
The diploma thesis is devoted to the analysis of Czech society´s readiness for the planned legalization of cannabis and other existing models of the regulated cannabis market in the world. Furthermore, within the framework of the research part, the attitude of police officers and representatives of the civilian population to the outlined issue was compared. Global trends towards the legalization of cannabis have gained considerable momentum over the past two decades and have not escaped the local political and social environment either. The current Czech government establishment is inclined to follow the global trend in access to cannabis and based on foreign experience is trying to create a system of regulated cannabis market that would fit local realities in the best way. The work shows that Czech society is still wary of the effects of cannabis use, but the perception of this addictive substance by both (police officers and civilian populations) is significantly more positive than that of other substances that have been established on the drug market for a longer period of time. Based on the research, police officers were found to be more inclined towards a punitive approach to cannabis, which corresponds with other world studies that have targeted this problem. The responses of the civilians to the questions suggest that this group of respondents has a considerably more liberal approach to legalization tendencies than police officers
A call for action: Improve reporting of research studies to increase the scientific basis for regulatory decision-making
Publisher's version (útgefin grein)This is a call for action to scientific journals to introduce reporting requirements for toxicity and ecotoxicity studies. Such reporting requirements will support the use of peer‐reviewed research studies in regulatory decision‐making. Moreover, this could improve the reliability and reproducibility of published studies in general and make better use of the resources spent in research.Nordic Council of Minister
Human oral processing and texture profile analysis parameters: bridging the gap between the sensory evaluation and the instrumental measurements
Studies in food oral processing are becoming increasingly important with the advent of the aged society. The food oral processing model of Hutchings and Lillford (Journal of Texture Studies, 19, 1988, 103–115) describes the structural breakdown and lubrication of ingested food before the swallowing stage, and has been revisited in the present article. The instrumental technique texture profile analysis (TPA) purports to mimic the first two bites of mastication and its ease of use has lured some researchers to use it without a critical eye. In this article, we consider inconsistencies in the Hutchings and Lillford model with the hope that it might be further refined. With regard to TPA we question the validity of the data generated and urge authors caution before they publish results from the test protocol. If results are published then the x‐axis should be viewed as deformation or strain, and not time. Hardness should be represented by the breaking stress. Adhesiveness should be measured at a medium strain taking into account the surface properties of the plunger. The ratio of the energy estimated by the area under the curve obtained from the second and the first bites (A2/A1) should be called recoverability and not cohesiveness

Development of nanotechnology-based drug delivery systems with olive vegetable oil for cutaneous application
ABSTRACT Liquid-Crystalline Systems represent active compounds delivery systems that may be able to overcome the physical barrier of the skin, especially represented by the stratum corneum. To obtain these systems, aqueous and oily components are used with surfactants. Of the different association structures in such systems, the liquid-crystalline offer numerous advantages to a topical product. This manuscript presents the development of liquid-crystalline systems consisting, in which the oil component is olive oil, its rheological characterizations, and the location of liquid crystals in its phase map. Cytotoxic effects were evaluated using J-774 mouse macrophages as the cellular model. A phase diagram to mix three components with different proportions was constructed. Two liquid crystalline areas were found with olive oil in different regions in the ternary diagram with two nonionic surfactants, called SLC1 (S1) and SLC2 (S2). These systems showed lamellar liquid crystals that remained stable during the entire analysis time. The systems were also characterized rheologically with pseudoplastic behavior without thixotropy. The texture and bioadhesion assays showed that formulations were similar statistically (p < 0.05), indicating that the increased amount of water in S2 did not interfere with the bioadhesive properties of the systems. In vitro cytotoxic assays showed that formulations did not present cytotoxicity. Olive oil-based systems may be a promising platform for skin delivery of drugs
