Kola San Jon de Cova da Moura: an Instrumental Case of Intangible Cultural Heritage Safeguarding in the African Diaspora in Portugal
This essay approaches the trajectory of a Cabo Verdean traditional popular festivity and its implications in the contemporary urban scape of Lisbon when figured out as a transnational phenomenon that has become one of the greatest challenges in the field of Contemporary Anthropology in current Portuguese society The Kola San Jon de Cova da Moura is construed as one of the several outcomes of an immigrant associative phenomenon which occurred in the metropolitan area of Lisbon since the 1990s and whose mobilization has generated a diversity of strategies of struggle among these the political and pedagogic use of traditional cultural practices kin to the African immigrants Throughout an ethnographic immersion for a period of seven years the author has apprehended a complex mesh of individual and collective trajectories experience and individual narratives from persons and social actors committed to the decolonial principle of annulment of prejudice by means of social conviviality music and dance as well as through the construction of plac
A coupled optical-thermal-electrical model to predict the performance of hybrid PV/T-CCPC roof-top systems
A crossed compound parabolic concentrator (CCPC) is applied into a photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) hybrid solar collector, i.e. concentrating PV/T (CPV/T) collector, to develop new hybrid roof-top CPV/T systems. However, to optimise the system configuration and operational parameters as well as to predict their performances, a coupled optical, thermal and electrical model is essential. We establish this model by integrating a number of submodels sourced from literature as well as from our recent work on incidence-dependent optical efficiency, six-parameter electrical model and scaling law for outdoor conditions. With the model, electrical performance and cell temperature are predicted on specific days for the roof-top systems installed in Glasgow, Penryn and Jaen. Results obtained by the proposed model reasonably agree with monitored data and it is also clarified that the systems operate under off-optimal operating condition. Long-term electric performance of the CPV/T systems is estimated as well. In addition, effects of transient terms in heat transfer and diffuse solar irradiance on electric energy are identified and discussed
Creating the Student Organic Farm at the University of Minnesota
Includes title page with table of contents, 15 chapters, and 2 appendices. In the Spring of 2005 the first Student Organic Farm Class took place at the University of Minnesota on the Twin Cities Campus. The following is the curriculum that was used by the class to create our initial master plan. It is in the format of an Integrating Paper that was submitted by Courtney Tchida for her Masters of Education Program
Gale Woods Farm Curriculum Directory
Gale Woods Farm is part of the Three Rivers Park District. Situated on 410 Acres in Minnetrista, Minnesota the park features a working educational farm, access to Whaletail Lake, a picnic pavilion and numerous cross country trails. Gale Woods is focused on connecting people to the source of their food on a small diverse farm that uses sustainable, contemporary farming methods. Programs can be adapted for a variety of different ages and can be scheduled for a half day, full-day or multi-day experience. The farm includes a production scale Community Supported Agriculture garden, a teaching garden, teaching and learning barn, and numerous pastures for grazing Galloway cattle, Border Leicester, Finn, and Clun Forest sheep, a Great Pryenees sheep-guarding-dog, and both egg-laying and meat chickens. The farm provides opportunities for visitors of all ages to enjoy experiences that enhance their understanding of agriculture, food production and land stewardship. This report develops an educational curricula that teachers can use both at the farm and in their classrooms to create an awareness of farming and food production and agricultural practices that focus on environmental stewardship. The electronic version of the report that can be downloaded from this page as a 'zipped' file includes the MS Access database created as part of the project. The database is also included in the reference version available at the CURA Resource Collection.Prepared in partnership with the Three Rivers Park District and Gale Woods Farm by the Community Assistantship Program (CAP) administered by the Center for Urban and Regional Affairs, University of Minnesota.Tchida, Courtney.
