The EQIP GIS, Web-based Decision Program

    Get PDF
Working together, NRCS and Purdue University staff developed a GIS, web-based EQIP decision program. Landowners and NRCS personnel enter required EQIP information via a mapping service. Other subroutines store the information for use by NRCS in ranking and funding EQIP applications that receive the highest scores subject to budget constraints.Research and Development/Tech Change/Emerging Technologies,

    Teaching with ArcGIS Pro

    Get PDF
For Fall semester 2016 the ABE department moved the course ASM 540 Basic GIS from ArcGIS Desktop 10.2 to ArcGIS Pro 1.3. This software from ESRI has a completely new look and feel, (ribbon-based rather than cascading menus) and is a true 64 bit application, capable of multi-threading, and built on Python 3. After ArcGIS Desktop 10.5 is released, desktop ends and the future release will be ArcGIS Pro; so it makes sense to switch sooner rather than later. This talk will discuss some issues and some observations of that process

Summer Internships in Software Engineering in ABE

We discuss the various software engineering projects which were assigned to a group of 8 undrgrad computer science interns who worked in Agricultural and Biological Engineering this summer. All projects involved mapping, mobile apps, REST services or online map-based decision support services. All students completed soem ESRI Virtual Campus training

Rain Garden Inventory Responsive and Mobile Site

    Get PDF
This project is to create a responsive website to allow the public to input their various rainscaping practices into a database and viewed on a map. In addition, their data will be calculated and capacity will be shown. This inventory website is responsive and will change between desktop and mobile view automatically based on the parameters of the browser

The STEPL model is a web-based spreadsheet tool designed for the estimation / of pollutant load and to analyze how creation or practicing certain sustainable / activities will reduce pollution in a watershed. For example, leaving a strip of / grass between a farm field and a water feature like stream of lake, will have an / estimated impact on the amount of soil and fertilizer which runs off in to the / river. / The model uses soil properties database, precipitation database and other / factors to make an estimate of pollution reduction after an action. It can then / calculate the cost of applying the action

Great Lakes Basin Water Quality Analysis Using L-THIA Model in Desktop GIS

    Get PDF
The objective of this project is to provide a scientific estimate of the surface runoff and water quality within the great lakes watershed. The problem is that there has been a trend of a decrease in water quality that threatens to damage marine ecosystems. In addition, the Great Lakes significance to the US economy is highlighted by its use in fisheries, tourism, shipping, recreation and as a freshwater supply. In 1972 the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement was established between the US and Canada, and Areas of Concern (AOC) were identified within respective country boundaries. The US government has invested heavily in remedial action within these areas and this is expected to be reflected by improved land use policy making. Therefore, it is expected that although there is to be an overall degradation in water quality, in these areas signs of improvement should be evident. A “Big Data” Long-term Hydrologic Impact (L-THIA) model was used for the analysis inside an ArcMAP user interface. The entire Great Lakes basin, as well as, the AOC was analyzed to highlight remedial efforts in this area. The model used national land coverage data (NLCD) for the years 2001, 2006 and 2011 to give a comparison over a 10 year period The general observation was an increase in urbanization between 2001 and 2006 which resulted in an increase in runoff and decrease in water quality. A similar trend existed from 2006 to 2011, however, the rate of water quality degradation had subdued

InFertMapper: A Mobile Map App for Fertilizer Setbacks

    Get PDF
Goal: To develop a mobile app decision-support tool which facilitates compliance by livestock producers with the new fertilizer regulations. This tool provides a map which allows users to quickly know where the various setbacks are located in relation to a field being evaluated for a manure application or temporary storage (staging)

A computable general equilibrium model, dynamic and recursive, for the economy of Argentina as of 2006 is presented in this document. It is a model of 29 sectors of production, ten consumers, government and rest of the world. It is a model of a small economy, in a GAMS/MPSGE environment. The document includes a thorough description of: 1) the Social Accounting Matrix, 2) the Calibration to the benchmark year, 3) the Simulations and 4) the output files in terms of national accounts, welfare levels and results for firms and sectors. Several simulations of exogenous and policy induced shocks are also presented.Equilibrio General Computado; dinámico recursivo; GAMS/MPSGE; Simulaciones
