(DIPF/Orig.)As regards its disciplinary and professional contours, social education seemed to have found its way towards normality during the last third of the past century. However, this positive view is being questioned by recent diagnoses which consider the project of social education within the “house” of educational science a failure. The authors reconstruct and criticize this position as it is presented in this journal by Jürgen Reyer, in particular, and which characterizes modern social education as the product of a history of loss and decay. The locus of social education, as it emerges here, can at present only be adequately defined against the background of the general conditions of development in the field of social work. For modern social education, educational science no longer constitutes the only point of reference in dealing with sociopedagogical issues. Just as the practice can no longer be defined simply via the mode of educative action, it now seems inappropriate to adhere to an exclusively historically determined and philosophically inspired, classical- pedagogical theoretical core. In contrast, the authors plead for an empirically substantiated theory of social education based on a theory of modernization, also because this is the only way to adequately describe and conceptualize the complexity and dynamic inconsistency of sociopedagogical acting under the conditions of the upheavals of modern times. Explaining the magnetic moment reduction of Fullerene encapsulated Gadolinium through a theoretical model

We propose a Theoretical model accounting for the recently observed reduced magnetic moment of Gadolinium in fullerenes. While this reduction has been observed also for other trivalent rare-hearth atoms (Dy3+, Er3+, Ho3+) in fullerenes and can be ascribed to crystal field effects, the explanation of this phenomena for Gd3+ is not straightforward due to the sphericity of its ground state (S=7/2, L=0). In our model the momentum lowering is the result of a subtle interplay between hybridisation and spin-orbit interaction

Dynamic Data Driven Dimensioning of Balancing Power with k-Nearest Neighbors

This paper proposes a novel dynamic design for control reserve dimensioning. In contrast to the current statistical analytic design we present a data driven approach with methods of computational intelligence. The chosen k-nearest neighbor algorithm is one of the most sucessfully used methods in machine learning. The model is able to predict complex nonlinear behavior by assuming that similar observations have similar outcomes. A condition for the success of this method is to determine the salient features. Therefore the core of this paper is to show the dependencies of the influencing parameters. Numerical experiments on the basis of freely available data for the years 2011 until 2013 show that there are time and space patterns as well as inter dependencies with the active power market

Experience and knowledge - interpretative patterns and forms of knowledge among professional pedagogues and social workers in out-of-school work with children and adolescents

(DIPF/Text übernommen)On the basis of narrative, biographical interviews, the authors analyze the job-oriented interpretative patterns, plans of action, and professional knowledge of socio-pedagogical actors working with children and adolescents out of school. The results of the qualitatively oriented empirical analysis of the professional habitualization of pedagogues with diverse profiles are exemplified by means of a case reconstruction. The authors come to the conclusion that, in the construction of a "professional practice", those working with children and adolescents out of school usually rely more on their own biographical ressources than on academic professional knowledge. ClgR regulation of chaperone and protease systems is essential for Mycobacterium tuberculosis parasitism of the macrophage

Chaperone and protease systems play essential roles in cellular homeostasis and have vital functions in controlling the abundance of specific cellular proteins involved in processes such as transcription, replication, metabolism and virulence. Bacteria have evolved accurate regulatory systems to control the expression and function of chaperones and potentially destructive proteases. Here, we have used a combination of transcriptomics, proteomics and targeted mutagenesis to reveal that the clp gene regulator (ClgR) of Mycobacterium tuberculosis activates the transcription of at least ten genes, including four that encode protease systems (ClpP1/C, ClpP2/C, PtrB and HtrA-like protease Rv1043c) and three that encode chaperones (Acr2, ClpB and the chaperonin Rv3269). Thus, M. tuberculosis ClgR controls a larger network of protein homeostatic and regulatory systems than ClgR in any other bacterium studied to date. We demonstrate that ClgR-regulated transcriptional activation of these systems is essential for M. tuberculosis to replicate in macrophages. Furthermore, we observe that this defect is manifest early in infection, as M. tuberculosis lacking ClgR is deficient in the ability to control phagosome pH 1 h post-phagocytosis

Sum rules for X-ray magnetic circular dichroism spectra in strongly correlated ferromagnets

    Get PDF
It is proven that the sum rules for X-ray magnetic dichroism (XMCD) spectra that are used to separate spin and orbital contributions to the magnetic moment are formally correct for an arbitrary strength of electron-electron interactions. However, their practical application for strongly correlated systems can become complicated due to the spectral density weight spreading over a broad energy interval. Relevance of incoherent spectral density for the XMCD sum rules is illustrated by a simple model of a ferromagnet with orbital degrees of freedom.Comment: 4 pages, final versio
