Data analytics for data variety
Through the Internet, the organizations managers had access to massive amounts of data and
these data are presented in different formats, namely, structured, semi-structured and
unstructured. These variety of data is essentially generated from social networks, but not only,
they also are generated from the Internet of Things, from machines, sensors, among others.
While the structured data has techniques well studied, mature and validated, otherwise the
other types of techniques, semi-structured and unstructured, this is no longer true. In this
poster, a set of data analysis techniques is presented for the semi-structured and unstructured
data by using as main bibliography data analytics conferences.(undefined)info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Kinematical and neuromuscular assessment of the rowing exercise in the upright position with barbell to improve muscle strength and muscle endurance in group fitness classes
The aim was to assess the interaction between kinematics and
neuromuscular responses of subjects performing the rowing
exercise with barbell in group fitness classes with different
external loads and cadences. Fifteen male subjects performed
nine sets of nine repetitions of the selected exercise. Sets were
composed by a pair wise combination of different external
loads (5, 10 and 20 [kg]) and cadences (1, 2 and 4 musical
beats) in a randomized order. Kinematical data was collected
with an electrogoniometer and it was assessed the: (i) absolute
duration of each exercise repetition; (ii) minimum relative
angle between the arm and forearm during the flexion action.
Neuromuscular data was collected with superficial
electromyography and it was computed the EMG amplitude
(aEMG), the EMG room mean square (RMS) and the
activation time of five muscles from the arm and trunk.
Increasing cadence decreased the absolute duration of the
exercise cycle. There was no significant interaction between
the joint angle and the external load nor the cadence. Increases
in the external load and in the cadence imposed a RMS
increase as well. It was also verified a significant interaction
among the aEMG and the external load in the four muscle
groups
Flexural strengthening of RC slabs with prestressed CFRP strips: serviceability and ultimate load state behavior
A performance
The present work intends to contribute to the knowledge of Externally Bonded Reinforcement (EBR) technique using prestressed Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Polymer laminates (CFRP) to strengthen concrete structures in flexure, at both serviceability (SLS) and ultimate load levels (ULS). For that purpose, an experimental program was carried out with 8 slabs monotonically tested under displacement control up to failure. Two slabs were used as reference specimens (unstrengthened); 5 slabs were strengthened with prestressed EBR CFRP laminates; finally, 1 slab was strengthened EBR CFRP laminates without being prestressed. To fix the ends of the prestressed CFRP laminates two different anchorage systems were used: Mechanical Anchorage (MA) and Gradient Anchorage (GA). The effect of the width and thickness of the CFRP laminate were also studied. The observed performance of the tested slabs is critically analyzed in terms of SLS and ULS aspects

Flexural strengthening of RC slabs with prestressed CFRP strips using different anchorage systems
In the field of flexural strengthening of concrete structures the Externally Bonded Reinforcement (EBR) technique using carbon fiber-reinforced polymers (CFRP) is commonly used. This technique offers several structural advantages when the CFRP material is prestressed. One of the critical aspects of a prestressing technique is the type of end anchorage. Two systems are investigated in the present paper: the metallic anchorage elements fixed to the ends of the FRP reinforcement and the gradient anchorage. In order to assess the performance of these two systems, an experimental program was carried out. In addition to the anchorage systems, the cross-section geometry of the CFRP strip was also included in this study. Eight slabs were monotonically tested under displacement control up to failure by using a four-point bending test configuration. The observed performance of the tested slabs is critically analyzed.Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT
Abscisic Acid (ABA) Regulation of Arabidopsis SR Protein Gene Expression
Serine/arginine-rich (SR) proteins are major modulators of alternative splicing, a key generator of proteomic diversity and flexible means of regulating gene expression likely to be crucial in plant environmental responses. Indeed, mounting evidence implicates splicing factors in signal transduction of the abscisic acid (ABA) phytohormone, which plays pivotal roles in the response to various abiotic stresses. Using real-time RT-qPCR, we analyzed total steady-state transcript levels of the 18 SR and two SR-like genes from Arabidopsis thaliana in seedlings treated with ABA and in genetic backgrounds with altered expression of the ABA-biosynthesis ABA2 and the ABA-signaling ABI1 and ABI4 genes. We also searched for ABA-responsive cis elements in the upstream regions of the 20 genes. We found that members of the plant-specific SC35-Like (SCL) Arabidopsis SR protein subfamily are distinctively responsive to exogenous ABA, while the expression of seven SR and SR-related genes is affected by alterations in key components of the ABA pathway. Finally, despite pervasiveness of established ABA-responsive promoter elements in Arabidopsis SR and SR-like genes, their expression is likely governed by additional, yet unidentified cis-acting elements. Overall, this study pinpoints SR34, SR34b, SCL30a, SCL28, SCL33, RS40, SR45 and SR45a as promising candidates for involvement in ABA-mediated stress responses.FCT PostDoctoral Fellowships: SFRH/BPD/80073/2011, SFRH/BPD/81830/2011
Autonomous acoustic surveillance system for nearshore soundscaping
In response to global climate change and growing industry capabilities, researchers are looking for robust and soft engineered solutions for nearshore ecosystems. A newly developed Multifunctional Artificial Reef is capable of performing several functions within one structure, among which is marine ecosystem restoration and the support for various sensors for structural and environmental monitoring. Combining such functionalities, implementation of passive acoustic shows great potential for biodiversity monitoring and colonization process observation of recently deployed artificial structure. Therefore, by integrating moored hydrophone within the artificial reef system and setting recording mode as well as post processing optimization, peculiar features of local marine habitat behaviour will be researched in order to provide better insight on the contribution of these structures for ecosystems preservation
Preliminary attempt to develop a path-flow analysis model for swimming performance in children
The goal of competitive swimming is to travel the event
distance as fast as possible. The identification of the parameters
that predict swimming performances is one of
the main aims of the swimming “science” community.
Indeed, it is consensual that biomechanical and energetic
variables are determinant for performance in this
sport. Several research groups dedicate their attention
to the relationships establish between biomechanical
and energetic variables on adult swimmers, with special
emphasis on elite adult swimmers
