Online copyright infringement research
The Government has released new research on the levels of online copyright infringement in Australia and why people choose to download content illegally. 22 July 2015 The research shows Australia has high levels of online copyright infringement.
TNS Australia conducted a survey for the department between 25 March and 13 April 2015. It was closely based on surveys undertaken by the United Kingdom Government, so the results for the two countries could be compared.
The objectives for this research were: to understand the prevalence of online copyright infringement in Australia across four core content types (music, video games, movies and TV programmes); to understand what attitudes drive online copyright infringement behaviours; and to determine the role pricing plays in lawful and unlawful access of online content. The survey asked respondents to think about activities they had undertaken in the past 3 months, which broadly corresponds to January-March 2015.
Over 2,630 Australians aged 12 and over were interviewed. The research shows that Australians are consuming a significant amount of digital content, with 60 per cent having done so during the survey period across four main content types surveyed: movies, music, TV programmes and video games. Four in ten content consumers, or 43 per cent, had consumed at least some illegal files (compared to 21 per cent in the UK). This represents a quarter of all Australian internet users, or 26 per cent
Notorious places: image, reputation, stigma: the role of newspapers in area reputations for social housing estates
This paper reviews work in several disciplines to distinguish between image, reputation and stigma. It also shows that there has been little research on the process by which area reputations are established and sustained through transmission processes. This paper reports on research into the portrayal of two social housing estates in the printed media over an extended period of time (14 years). It was found that negative and mixed coverage of the estates dominated, with the amount of positive coverage being very small. By examining the way in which dominant themes were used by newspapers in respect of each estate, questions are raised about the mode of operation of the press and the communities' collective right to challenge this. By identifying the way regeneration stories are covered and the nature of the content of positive stories, lessons are drawn for programmes of area transformation. The need for social regeneration activities is identified as an important ingredient for changing deprived-area reputations
Eestikeelne aineõpe vene õppekeelega koolides: hetkeolukord ja vajadused
Uuringu eesmärgiks on: 1) kaardistada eestikeelse aineõppe olukord vene õppekeelega üldhariduskoolides, 2) selgitada välja peamiste huvirühmade, sh venekeelsete koolide juhtide, aineõpetajate ja õpilaste suhtumine eestikeelsesse aineõpetusse ja 2007. aastaks kavandatud venekeelse gümnaasiumi reformi, 3) hinnata huvirühmade valmisolekut ja vene koolide võimalusi osalisele eestikeelsele aineõppele ülemineku osas, 4) anda soovitusi edasiõppe tegevuskavade ja kommunikatsioonistrateegia väljatöötamiseks ja/või jätkamiseks, lähtudes huvirühmade hoiakutest, ootustest ja vajadustest
Mitte-eestlaste teadlikkus ja suhtumine vene õppekeelega koolide gümnaasiumiastmes eestikeelsele aineõppele üleminekust
Uuringu eesmärk oli kaardistada Eestis elavate mitte-eestlaste teadlikkus, suhtumine ja hoiakud eestikeelsesse aineõppesse vene õppekeelega koolides
Legally flawed, scientifically problematic, potentially harmful: The UK Psychoactive Substance Bill
This journal has often analysed legislation in the field of drug policy. Rarely has it discussed a proposed law that has such deep problems in its legal and scientific bases. The Psychoactive Substances Bill, which is currently proceeding through the UK Parliament, will (if enacted) create a ‘blanket ban’ on the production, importation, exportation and supply of all psychoactive substances for human consumption, except for those that are specifically exempted. The Bill provides for a range of civil and criminal penalties, with a maximum seven-year prison sentence

DHM-OCR: A Deep Hybrid Model for Online Course Recommendation and Sustainable Development of Education
In recent years, there has been an increase in online education resources to help learners improve their skills. However, it is difficult to select the right course from available online education resources due to the demands and needs of learners with different knowledge domains. To solve this problem, an online course recommendation model has the important factor of enhancing learner's knowledge. Many existing recommendation systems (RS) use collaborative filtering (CF) to recommend courses to learners. The major problems with the Collaborative Filtering Recommendation System (CFRS) are the sparse preferences and the scalability of the data. According to the similarity of items, many recommendation models are proposed and developed, but none of these provide suggestions to users without their associations or preferences. We propose a deep hybrid model-online course recommendation (DHM-OCR) that uses high-level learner behavior and course objective features. We demonstrate the improvements and efficiency of the model for suggesting online e-learning courses. According to the analysis and evaluation results, it seems that our DHM-OCR outperforms the parallel research recommendation system. Experimental findings from online course data reveal that the suggested model and approach significantly improve classification accuracy and training efficiency, particularly limited available data
Õpetajaameti kuvand ja atraktiivsus 2016
Uuringu eesmärgiks oli hinnata õpetajaameti kuvandi ja atraktiivsuse algtase Eesti
ühiskonnas.
Uuringu kaugemaleulatuv eesmärk on toetada õpetajaameti kuvandi kaasajastumist,
- 16-19-aastased gümnaasiumiõpilased üldhariduskoolides;
- 1.-2. kursuse bakalaureuse taseme üliõpilased;
- 35-50-aastane elanikkond;
- õpetajad üldhariduskoolides ja kutseõppeasutustes
- …
