What does really matter in the internationalization of small and medium-sized family businesses?
During the last decades considerable academic attention has been given to the internationalization of family businesses, as it is often considered a way to revitalize both the family and the business. Despite this increasing attention, the debate on its drivers, challenges and constraints is still inconclusive. The aim of this study is to explore whether incoming generations’ involvement impact the decision to exploit and explore international opportunities and to what extent altruism and competence-based trust mediate that relationship. Three propositions are formulated drawing from international entrepreneurship literature and stewardship theory. To validate this framework, a multiple case study on four Italian family firms has been conducted. The main findings suggest that timing, scope and internationalization modes change in relation to specific family firms’ features. When “epochal” changes (e.g. incoming generation) suddenly break down they contribute positively to the exploration and exploitation of international entrepreneurial activities. Moreover, the existence of interpersonal ties based on altruism and competence-based trust between senior and incoming generations mitigates this relationship
Music Performance Anxiety (MPA) is a disorder that affects
some musicians independent from age, experience, dedication
or instrument. MPA is manifested in orchestras, choirs and
soloist musicians and appears as a physiologic, psychological,
cognitive and emotional phenomenon. This work consists in a
research about MPA in a Portuguese orchestra. After the results
of the STAI-Y Inventory, we compared how 36 musicians of
Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras (OFB) felt before a concert
(state-anxiety) and in a common situation (trait-anxiety).
Furthermore, we correlated data from our sample with data from
the Portuguese population. We concluded that the musicians of
OFB don´t presented significant differences between both
moments and present low levels of state-anxiety and traitanxiety
relatively to Portuguese population
An alternative football club in a liquid modernity: FC United of Manchester
Critical management studies have taken an interest in ‘utopian’ models of
management, especially within alternative organizations. This article focuses on
FC United of Manchester, a small football club with 5000 members, whose
principles of inclusion, affordability, community, and friendship evoke ideas of
utopianism and collectivism. About 30 fan-owned football clubs exist in the UK,
each with their own raison d’eˆtre, but all discontented with the commodification
of the game. Bauman’s concept of ‘liquid modernity’, in which individuals find
self-realization through consumption, is used to analyse how FC United reacts to
the individualization and commercialization of football. This analysis employs
CMS concepts to evaluate whether FC United is a genuine alternative to
standard business models, and gives an empirical and critical dimension to liquid
modernity as a framework for understanding society
Juan Baltasar Maziel and his contribution to the teaching of philosophy in the River Plate region
The subject is the contribution of Juan Baltasar Maziel (1727-1778) to the
teaching of Philosophy, Theology and Law in the Colegio de San Carlos of
Buenos Aires, in the last third of the XVIIIth Century. In addition, other political
ideas of Maziel are considered.Fil: Torchia Estrada, Juan Carlos

High-order harmonic generation driven by chirped laser pulses induced by linear and non linear phenomena
We present a theoretical study of high-order harmonic generation (HHG) driven
by ultrashort optical pulses with different kind of chirps. The goal of the
present work is perform a detailed study to clarify the relevant parameters in
the chirped pulses to achieve a noticeable cut-off extensions in HHG. These
chirped pulses are generated using both linear and nonlinear dispersive
media. The description of the origin of the physical mechanisms responsible of
this extension is, however, not usually reported with enough detail in the
literature. The study of the behaviour of the harmonic cut-off with these kind
of pulses is carried out in the classical context, by the integration of the
Newton-Lorentz equation complemented with the quantum approach, based on the
integration of the time dependent Schr\"odinger equation in full dimensions
(TDSE-3D), we are able to understand the underlying physics.Comment: 13 pages, 8 figure
