    International audienceThis paper proposes an approach to accurately localize the origin of product quality drifts, in a flexible manufacturing system (FMS). The failure propagation mechanism in a production process is proposed based on the relationships between failure sources to explain the failure propagation following production flow. The logical diagnosis model is used to reduce the search space of suspected equipment in the production flow; however, it does not help in accurately localizing the faulty equipment. In the proposed approach, we model this reduced search space as a Bayesian network that uses historical data to compute conditional probabilities for each suspected equipment. This approach helps in making accurate decisions on localizing the cause for product quality drifts as either one of the equipment in production flow or product itself

    Gas-phase study on uridine: Conformation and X-ray photofragmentation

    Fragmentation of RNA nucleoside uridine, induced by carbon 1s core ionization, has been studied. The measurements by combined electron and ion spectroscopy have been performed in gas phase utilizing synchrotron radiation. As uridine is a combination of d-ribose and uracil, which have been studied earlier with the same method, this study also considers the effect of chemical environment and the relevant functional groups. Furthermore, since in core ionization the initial core hole is always highly localized, charge migration prior to fragmentation has been studied here. This study also demonstrates the destructive nature of core ionization as in most cases the C 1s ionization of uridine leads to concerted explosions producing only small fragments with masses ≤43 amu. In addition to fragmentation patterns, we found out that upon evaporation the sugar part of the uridine molecule attains hexagonal formFinancial support from the Academy of Finland, the European COST Action XLIC CM1204 and the EU Transnational Access to Research Infrastructures programme.     Acupuncture for cancer pain in adults.

    BACKGROUND: Forty percent of individuals with early or intermediate stage cancer and 90% with advanced cancer have moderate to severe pain and up to 70% of patients with cancer pain do not receive adequate pain relief. It has been claimed that acupuncture has a role in management of cancer pain and guidelines exist for treatment of cancer pain with acupuncture. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate efficacy of acupuncture for relief of cancer-related pain in adults. SEARCH STRATEGY: CENTRAL, MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, AMED, and SPORTDiscus were searched up to November 2010 including non-English language papers. SELECTION CRITERIA: Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating any type of invasive acupuncture for pain directly related to cancer in adults of 18 years or over. DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS: It was planned to pool data to provide an overall measure of effect and to calculate the number needed to treat to benefit, but this was not possible due to heterogeneity. Two review authors (CP, OT) independently extracted data adding it to data extraction sheets. Quality scores were given to studies. Data sheets were compared and discussed with a third review author (MJ) who acted as arbiter. Data analysis was conducted by CP, OT and MJ. MAIN RESULTS: Three RCTs (204 participants) were included. One high quality study investigated the effect of auricular acupuncture compared with auricular acupuncture at 'placebo' points and with non-invasive vaccaria ear seeds attached at 'placebo' points. Participants in two acupuncture groups were blinded but blinding wasn't possible in the ear seeds group because seeds were attached using tape. This may have biased results in favour of acupuncture groups. Participants in the real acupuncture group had lower pain scores at two month follow-up than either the placebo or ear seeds group.There was high risk of bias in two studies because of low methodological quality. One study comparing acupuncture with medication concluded that both methods were effective in controlling pain, although acupuncture was the most effective. The second study compared acupuncture, point-injection and medication in participants with stomach cancer. Long-term pain relief was reported for both acupuncture and point-injection compared with medication during the last 10 days of treatment. Although both studies have positive results in favour of acupuncture they should be viewed with caution due to methodological limitations, small sample sizes, poor reporting and inadequate analysis. AUTHORS' CONCLUSIONS: There is insufficient evidence to judge whether acupuncture is effective in treating cancer pain in adults

    Spatial and institutional organization of vegetable market in Hanoi

    The main idea of the second module of the SUSPER project - "Market development of Periurban food commodities" - is to provide a more accurate picture of the spatial and institutional organization of vegetable markets. It is essential to enhance our understanding of how markets function over the year. By understanding this we can achieve such objectives as helping harmonise peri-urban production with urban consumption in terms of quality, quantity and regularity. Additionally we can determine how information can be efficiently spread among the actors of the market in order to reach as many people as possible. In this perspective, a study of the organization of the vegetable marketing chain was carried out throughout 2002. A survey, carried out in various seasons, focused on such issues as: (1) seasonal variations in the origin, price and amount of vegetable sold in Hanoi. (2) The identity and the distribution of responsibilities among the different actors involved in fresh vegetable markets and (3) mapping out vegetable flows between Hanoi and the surrounding areas.
