TTA solvation kinetics in the ionic liquid Bumim
TTA, a classical complexing agent of metallic cations, has been studied by UV–vis in the ionic liquid (IL) 1-methyl-3-butyl-imidazolium bistriflimide (BumimTf2N), in the presence of variable amounts of water. Depending on the water content, the keto-hydrate/enol equilibrium kinetics can last up to tens of hours. Modelling by use of classical homogeneous kinetic equations appears unsatisfactory, which pledges for the existence of non-homogeneous phenomena in such solutions, most probably related to the state of water in ILs
Measurements of high-energy neutron-induced fission of (nat)Pb and (209)Bi
This is an Open Access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial License 3.0, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any noncommercial medium, provided the original work is properly citedThe CERN Neutron Time-Of-Flight (n_TOF) facility is well suited to measure low cross sections as those of neutron-induced fission in subactinides. The cross section ratios of (nat)Pb and (209)Bi relative to (235)U and (238)U were measured using PPAC detectors and a fragment coincidence method that allows us to identify the fission events. The present experiment provides first results for neutron-induced fission up to 1 GeV. Good agreement is found with previous experimental data below 200 MeV. The comparison with proton-induced fission indicates that the limiting regime where neutron-induced and proton-induced fission reach equal cross sections is close to 1 GeV
New measurement of exotic decay of Ac by C emission
The branching ratio of Ac decay by emission of C was remeasured under improved experimental conditions by using a radioactive source produced at the ISOLDE mass-separator at CERN and a nuclear track detector technique. The result, B=, is consistent with the anomalously high value obtained in the 1993 experiment thus confirming the importance of nuclear structure effects in this exotic decay
Neutron-induced fission cross section of (234)U and (237)Np measured at the CERN Neutron Time-of-Flight (n_TOF) facility
A high-resolution measurement of the neutron-induced fission cross section of (234)U and (237)Np has been performed at the CERN Neutron Time-of-Flight facility. The cross sections have been determined in a wide energy range from 1 eV to 1 GeV using the evaluated (235)U cross section as reference. In these measurements the energy determination for the (234)U resonances could be improved, whereas previous discrepancies for the (237)Np resonances were confirmed. New cross-section data are provided for high neutron energies that go beyond the limits of prior evaluations, obtaining important differences in the case of (237)Np.Physical Review
Neutron-induced fission cross section of (nat)Pb and (209)Bi from threshold to 1 GeV: An improved parametrization
Neutron-induced fission cross sections for (nat)Pb and (209)Bi were measured with a white-spectrum neutron source at the CERN Neutron Time-of-Flight (n_TOF) facility. The experiment, using neutrons from threshold up to 1 GeV, provides the first results for these nuclei above 200 MeV. The cross sections were measured relative to (235)U and (238)U in a dedicated fission chamber with parallel plate avalanche counter detectors. Results are compared with previous experimental data. Upgraded parametrizations of the cross sections are presented, from threshold energy up to 1 GeV. The proposed new sets of fitting parameters improve former results along the whole energy range.Physical Review
