Stationary distributions of sums of marginally chaotic variables as renormalization group fixed points
We determine the limit distributions of sums of deterministic chaotic
variables in unimodal maps assisted by a novel renormalization group (RG)
framework associated to the operation of increment of summands and rescaling.
In this framework the difference in control parameter from its value at the
transition to chaos is the only relevant variable, the trivial fixed point is
the Gaussian distribution and a nontrivial fixed point is a multifractal
distribution with features similar to those of the Feigenbaum attractor. The
crossover between the two fixed points is discussed and the flow toward the

structure - where the only relevant variable is the difference in control
parameter from its value at the transition to chaos - the trivial fixed point
is the Gaussian distribution and a novel nontrivial fixed point is a
multifractal distribution that emulates the Feigenbaum attractor, and is
universal in the sense of the latter. The crossover between the two fixed
points is explained and the flow toward the trivial fixed point is seen to be
comparable to the chaotic band merging sequence. We discuss the nature of the

The Neutral Interest Rate: Estimates for Chile
To estimate the neutral real interest rate for Chile, we use a variety of methods that can be classified into three categories: those derived from economic theory, the neutral rate implicit in financial assets, and statistical procedures using macroeconomic data. We conclude that the neutral rate is not constant over time, but it is closely related with—though not equivalent to—the potential GDP growth rate. The application of the different methods yields fairly similar results. The neutral real interest rate for Chile seems to be in the range from 2.1% to 3.5%, with a median of 2.8% taking data of the fourth quarter of 2007.
The output Gap in chile: Measurement and Evaluation
This paper estimates potential GDP growth and output gaps for the period 1986-2007 using three different methodologies: (i) production function, (ii) Kalman filter proxy (univariate and multivariate) and (iii) structural VAR . The output gap estimates show a high degree of mutual consistency. The methods suggest that at the beginning of the sample period the economy was overheated with considerably wide positive gaps. From 1993 through the Asian crisis, the gap was positive but small. From the crisis onwards estimates show a negative gap with a mild trend to close, but becomes positive in 2007. To evaluate the different gap measurements, real-time estimates are compared with ex-post estimates in terms of their capacity for forecasting future inflation. For potential GDP growth, the different methods yield similar results. For the full period, trend GDP growth is estimated at around 5.5%. However, significant differences exist across sub-periods, particularly showing a deceleration in the aftermath of the 1999 recession.
Análisis funcional y cinemático de la marcha en un paciente con lesión medular lumbar incompleta
Este estudio de investigación pretende analizar la evolución de la marcha en un paciente con lesión medular incompleta, tras ser sometido a un programa de entrenamiento de la marcha de forma asistida con soporte parcial del peso corporal con el sistema Lokomat®. Para ello se ha realizado una exploración física y funcional con las escalas de evaluación más utilizadas a éste nivel, conjuntamente con el análisis videográfico, permitiéndonos observar correlaciones entre los datos obtenidos en los apartados de pasos por minuto, velocidad y longitud de paso. Para poder corroborar estos datos, se ha realizado un estudio cinemático utilizando dos cámaras de alta definición, con una velocidad de filmación fijada en 100 imágenes por segundo, procesadas directamente a un ordenador, y realizando la Transformación de 2D a 3D, con el método Direct Linear Transformation (DLT) dado por el Performance Analysis System (APAS).The aim of this research study is to analyze the evolution of gait in a patient with incomplete lumbar spine injury, who was placed on an assisted gait training program with partial body-weight support using the Lokomat® system. A physical and functional assessment was carried out taking into account standard evaluation scales together with video analysis, which allowed us to observe correlations between the data collected for steps per minute, step speed and step length. To corroborate these data, a kinematic study was carried out using two high-resolution cameras with a shooting speed fixed at 100 images per second. Probing the innermost regions of AGN jets and their magnetic fields with RadioAstron II. Observations of 3C 273 at minimum activity
RadioAstron is a 10 m orbiting radio telescope mounted on the Spektr-R
satellite, launched in 2011, performing Space Very Long Baseline Interferometry
(SVLBI) observations supported by a global ground array of radio telescopes.
With an apogee of about 350 000 km, it is offering for the first time the
possibility to perform {\mu}as-resolution imaging in the cm-band. We present
observations at 22 GHz of 3C 273, performed in 2014, designed to reach a
maximum baseline of approximately nine Earth diameters. Reaching an angular
resolution of 0.3 mas, we study a particularly low-activity state of the
source, and estimate the nuclear region brightness temperature, comparing with
the extreme one detected one year before during the RadioAstron early science
period. We also make use of the VLBA-BU-BLAZAR survey data, at 43 GHz, to study
the kinematics of the jet in a 1.5-year time window. We find that the nuclear
brightness temperature is two orders of magnitude lower than the exceptionally
high value detected in 2013 with RadioAstron at the same frequency (1.4x10^13
K, source-frame), and even one order of magnitude lower than the equipartition
value. The kinematics analysis at 43 GHz shows that a new component was ejected
2 months after the 2013 epoch, visible also in our 22 GHz map presented here.
Consequently this was located upstream of the core during the brightness
temperature peak. These observations confirm that the previously detected
extreme brightness temperature in 3C 273, exceeding the inverse Compton limit,
is a short-lived phenomenon caused by a temporary departure from equipartition.
Thus, the availability of interferometric baselines capable of providing
{\mu}as angular resolution does not systematically imply measured brightness
temperatures over the known physical limits for astrophysical sources.Comment: Accepted for publication in A&
On the origin of the Boson peak in globular proteins
We study the Boson Peak phenomenology experimentally observed in globular
proteins by means of elastic network models. These models are suitable for an
analytic treatment in the framework of Euclidean Random Matrix theory, whose
predictions can be numerically tested on real proteins structures. We find that
the emergence of the Boson Peak is strictly related to an intrinsic mechanical
instability of the protein, in close similarity to what is thought to happen in
glasses. The biological implications of this conclusion are also discussed by

Where are you from, stranger? The enigmatic biogeography of North African pond turtles (Emys orbicularis) .
Abstract The European pond turtle (Emys orbicularis) is a
Nearctic element in the African fauna and thought to have
invaded North Africa from the Iberian Peninsula. All North
African populations are currently identified with the subspecies
E. o. occidentalis. However, a nearly range-wide sampling in
North Africa used for analyses of mitochondrial and microsatellite
DNA provides evidence that only Moroccan populations
belong to this taxon, while eastern Algerian and Tunisian pond
turtles represent an undescribed distinct subspecies. These two
taxa are most closely related to E. o. galloitalica with a native
distribution along the Mediterranean coast of northern Spain
through southern France to western and southern Italy. This
group is sister to a clade comprising several mitochondrial lineages
and subspecies of E. orbicularis from Central and Eastern
Europe plus Asia, and the successive sisters are E. o. hellenica
and E. trinacris. Our results suggest that E. orbicularis has been
present in North Africa longer than on the Iberian Peninsula and
that after an initial invasion of North Africa by pond turtles from
an unknown European source region, there was a phase of
diversification in North Africa, followed by a later re-invasion
of Europe by one of the African lineages. The differentiation of
pond turtles in North Africa parallels a general phylogeographic
paradigm in amphibians and reptiles, with deeply divergent
lineages in the western and eastern Maghreb. Acknowledging
their genetic similarity, we propose to synonymize the previously
recognized Iberian subspecies E. o. fritzjuergenobsti with E. o.
occidentalis sensu stricto. The seriously imperiled Moroccan
populations of E. o. occidentalis represent two Management
Units different in mitochondrial haplotypes and microsatellite
markers. The conservation status of eastern Algerian pond turtles
is unclear, while Tunisian populations are endangered.
Considering that Algerian and Tunisian pond turtles represent
an endemic taxon, their situation throughout the historical range
should be surveyed to establish a basis for conservation
measures
Modelling chemistry in the nocturnal boundary layer above tropical rainforest and a generalised effective nocturnal ozone deposition velocity for sub-ppbv NOx conditions
Measurements of atmospheric composition have been made over a remote rainforest landscape. A box model has previously been demonstrated to model the observed daytime chemistry well. However the box model is unable to explain the nocturnal measurements of relatively high [NO] and [O3], but relatively low observed [NO2]. It is shown that a one-dimensional (1-D) column model with simple O3 -NOx chemistry and a simple representation of vertical transport is able to explain the observed nocturnal concentrations and predict the likely vertical profiles of these species in the nocturnal boundary layer (NBL). Concentrations of tracers carried over from the end of the night can affect the atmospheric chemistry of the following day. To ascertain the anomaly introduced by using the box model to represent the NBL, vertically-averaged NBL concentrations at the end of the night are compared between the 1-D model and the box model. It is found that, under low to medium [NOx] conditions (NOx <1 ppbv), a simple parametrisation can be used to modify the box model deposition velocity of ozone, in order to achieve good agreement between the box and 1-D models for these end-of-night concentrations of NOx and O3. This parametrisation would could also be used in global climate-chemistry models with limited vertical resolution near the surface. Box-model results for the following day differ significantly if this effective nocturnal deposition velocity for ozone is implemented; for instance, there is a 9% increase in the following day’s peak ozone concentration. However under medium to high [NOx] conditions (NOx > 1 ppbv), the effect on the chemistry due to the vertical distribution of the species means no box model can adequately represent chemistry in the NBL without modifying reaction rate constants
Analysis of a spatial Lotka-Volterra model with a finite range predator-prey interaction
We perform an analysis of a recent spatial version of the classical
Lotka-Volterra model, where a finite scale controls individuals' interaction.
We study the behavior of the predator-prey dynamics in physical spaces higher
than one, showing how spatial patterns can emerge for some values of the
