From the exclusive photoproduction of heavy quarkonia at HERA to the EDDE at TeVatron and LHC

Exclusive photoproduction of heavy quarkonia at HERA is analyzed in the framework of the Regge-eikonal approach together with the nonrelativistic bound state formalism. Total and differential cross-sections for the process γ+p(QQˉ)1S+p\gamma+p\to (Q\bar{Q})_{1S}+p are calculated. The model predicts cross-sections of Exclusive Double Diffractive Events (EDDE) at TeVatron and LHC.Comment: 14 pages, 6 figures, reference is adde

Analogue Models for T and CPT Violation in Neutral-Meson Oscillations

    Get PDF
Analogue models for CP violation in neutral-meson systems are studied in a general framework. No-go results are obtained for models in classical mechanics that are nondissipative or that involve one-dimensional oscillators. A complete emulation is shown to be possible for a two-dimensional oscillator with rheonomic constraints, and an explicit example with spontaneous T and CPT violation is presented. The results have implications for analogue models with electrical circuits.Comment: 9 page

Testing Lorentz and CPT symmetry with hydrogen masers

We present details from a recent test of Lorentz and CPT symmetry using hydrogen masers. We have placed a new limit on Lorentz and CPT violation of the proton in terms of a recent standard model extension by placing a bound on sidereal variation of the F = 1 Zeeman frequency in hydrogen. Here, the theoretical standard model extension is reviewed. The operating principles of the maser and the double resonance technique used to measure the Zeeman frequency are discussed. The characterization of systematic effects is described, and the method of data analysis is presented. We compare our result to other recent experiments, and discuss potential steps to improve our measurement.Comment: 26 pages, 16 figure

Ab initio study of magnesium alanate, Mg(AlH4)2

Magnesium alanate Mg(AlH4)2 has recently raised interest as a potential material for hydrogen storage. We apply ab initio calculations to characterize structural, electronic and energetic properties of Mg(AlH4)2. Density functional theory calculations within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) are used to optimize the geometry and obtain the electronic structure. The latter is also studied by quasi-particle calculations at the GW level. Mg(AlH4)2 is a large band gap insulator with a fundamental band gap of 6.5 eV. The hydrogen atoms are bonded in AlH4 complexes, whose states dominate both the valence and the conduction bands. On the basis of total energies, the formation enthalpy of Mg(AlH4)2 with respect to bulk magnesium, bulk aluminum and hydrogen gas is 0.17 eV/H2 (at T = 0). Including corrections due to the zero point vibrations of the hydrogen atoms this number decreases to 0.10 eV/H2. The enthalpy of the dehydrogenation reaction Mg(AlH4)2 -> MgH2 +2Al+3H2(g) is close to zero, which impairs the potential usefulness of magnesium alanate as a hydrogen storage material.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

Involvement of rural women in aquaculture: an innovative approach

    Get PDF
Although women have proved to be competent in adopting new aquaculture technologies, their role is very much restricted and often ignored. One of the major reasons is the location of aquaculture sites and several sociocultural taboos against women who strive to earn for their family’s subsistence in rural areas. There is a gender bias in many aquaculture activities. To ensure that women utilize their full potential in profitable activities like aquaculture, it is necessary to provide capacity building support to rural women, which will eventually lead to their empowerment. In countries like India, the technology provided to women must take into account cultural aspects. One such project - backyard ornamental fish breeding and management - has been found to offer immense scope for improving the livelihood of rural women. This paper gives some practical tips for dissemination of technology in the rural sector, particularly to rural women

In order to justify the selection and use of arc surfaces screening was performed a series of ex-periments that revealed that the separation efficiency dribnofraktsiynyh materials arc surfaces higher than similar screening inclined surfaces. This suggests the feasibility of their application in industry
