Managing polyglot systems metadata with hypergraphs
A single type of data store can hardly fulfill every end-user requirements in the NoSQL world. Therefore, polyglot systems use different types of NoSQL datastores in combination. However, the heterogeneity of the data storage models makes managing the metadata a complex task in such systems, with only a handful of research carried out to address this. In this paper, we propose a hypergraph-based approach for representing the catalog of metadata in a polyglot system. Taking an existing common programming interface to NoSQL systems, we extend and formalize it as hypergraphs for managing metadata. Then, we define design constraints and query transformation rules for three representative data store types. Furthermore, we propose a simple query rewriting algorithm using the catalog itself for these data store types and provide a prototype implementation. Finally, we show the feasibility of our approach on a use case of an existing polyglot system.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft
Behavioral effects of perinatal opioid exposure
Opioids are among the world's oldest known drugs used mostly for pain relief, but recreational use is also widespread. A particularly important problem is opioid exposure in females, as their offspring can also be affected. Adverse intrauterine and postnatal environments can affect offspring development and may lead to various disabilities later in life. It is clear that repetitive painful experiences, such as randomly occurring invasive procedures during neonatal intensive care, can permanently alter neuronal and synaptic organization and therefore later behavior. At the same time, analgesic drugs can also be harmful, inducing neuronal apoptosis or withdrawal symptoms in the neonate and behavioral alterations in adulthood. Hence, risk–benefit ratios should be taken into consideration when pain relief is required during pregnancy or in neonates.
Recreational use of opioids can also alter many aspects of life. Intrauterine opioid exposure has many toxic effects, inducing poor pregnancy outcomes due to underdevelopment, but it is believed that later negative consequences are more related to environmental factors such as a chaotic lifestyle and inadequate prenatal care. One of the crucial components is maternal care, which changes profoundly in addicted mothers. In substance-dependent mothers, pre- and postnatal care has special importance, and controlled treatment with a synthetic opioid (e.g., methadone) could be beneficial.
We aimed to summarize and compare human and rodent data, as it is important to close the gap between scientific knowledge and societal policies. Special emphasis is given to gender differences in the sensitivity of offspring to perinatal opioid exposure
In our days it has become common for agricultural enterprises to plan and define a schedule the production processes. To make the production operate more efficiently and profitably year after year, not only the system of internal and external conditions of the production are necessary to be determined, but also the factors that affect the management of the company. A considerable attention needs to be paid to the exact definiton of the projects and the responsibilities and to finding the person for the execution of the projects. The modern production, processing and trading of agricultural products require the adaptation of newer technologies. Our research was carried out at an agricultural enterprise whose main profile was crop production. We examined the application of project management methodologies by the management of the company and the change in the efficiency caused by them. Since the complex management of the investments were introduced, the company evolved, gained larger profits, and it became more developed in comparison with other agricultural enterprises in the area
Measuring the similarity of two cohorts in the n-dimensional space
Measuring the similarity of the case and control group in clinical studies has always been an important but also difficult task. Several statistics-based methods aimed at this exist but most of them utilize dimension reduction or estimation, therefore, there are certain cases where they are not adequate. In this paper, we propose 3 dissimilarity-based measures capable of evaluating case-control group pairs without the loss of valuable information
The impact of climate change on the economic growth in Australia, India and South Africa
This article reviews the impacts of climate change on Australia, India and South Africa. Current prediction shows that climate change will mostly have limited impact on the economy in the 21st century. The paper uses variables including temperature, precipitation, arable land and foreign direct investment. We have used data from the year 2004 to 2014. These countries show the variation of developed and developing countries and how climate change embodies a vital role in affecting each country’s economic growth. Descriptive analysis of Pooled OLS, Fixed Effect Model, Random Effect Model, Hausman test and Wald test were used to determine the climate change impacts. Based on the tests, we have found significant affect shown on economic growth by arable land and precipitation. However, temperature and foreign direct investment do not show significant effects. Despite the limitations found in this research study, there is a clearer vision on the depth of impact the climate change may cause to the growth of an economy. Recommendations are guven in relation to the limitations which would guide future researchers. This outcome of this research would contribute to better understanding for those who are keen to know more about the topic studied
