Background: Traditional Indian medical education limits first-year MBBS students to classroom settings, delaying clinical exposure until the second year. Early clinical exposure (ECE) aims to integrate basic sciences with clinical practice, enhancing student understanding and interest through direct patient interaction. Aim was to assess first-year MBBS students' perceptions of ECE. Objectives were to introduce clinical settings to first-year students, and to explore students' experiences and attitudes towards ECE. Methods: The study was conducted at Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Memorial Medical College, Amravati, involving 100 first-year MBBS students. Ethical clearance and permissions were obtained. Students participated in bedside teaching in small groups over four weeks, focusing on clinical conditions and diagnostics. Observations in the radiology department included first-trimester ultrasounds with patient interaction. A qualitative approach using focus group discussions and a post-test questionnaire was employed. Results: Learning and knowledge: 81% found ECE helpful, interest in topic: 75% reported increased interest, motivation: 84% felt motivated to learn more, correlation with clinical features: 60% found it helpful, ward rounds: 89% valued participation, knowledge sharing: 87% appreciated discussion opportunities, and overall utility: 79% recognized ECE's utility. Feedback indicated significant enhancements in learning, interest, and motivation, despite some neutral or negative responses. Conclusions: ECE is a vital teaching tool that improves first-year MBBS students' understanding, motivation, and professional skills. Despite logistical challenges, its overall positive impact on medical education justifies its implementation

The primary objective of our study was to identify the different types of histopathological lesions of testes and epididymis occurring in patients admitted in a tertiary care hospital, the objective was also to analyze the spectrum of testicular lesions, our aim was to evaluate the prevalence of testicular malignancies and characterize the tumor based on their histo-morphological features. This was a prospective study of 2 years (October 2018 to October 2020) aggregating a total of 52 cases. The surgical specimens were referred to the pathology department for histopathological analysis. Adetailed preoperative history of every case with regards to age, presenting symptoms, and signs along with personal history were obtained. Also, relevant investigations like serum tumor markers and Ultrasonography findings were analyzed. Postoperatively, the tissue was sent to the histopathology department was studied by proper fixation, gross examination, adequate sampling, and paraffin sections of the same.10% formalin was used to fix the specimen. Some resources suggest the use of Bouin solution for the fixation of testis biopsy specimens. However, the picric acid in the Bouin solution presents challenges for safe handling and disposal due to its explosive potential.Hence, given the available resources in our laboratory setting, formalin was the preferred choice of fixative. We ensured that the specimens came in adequate amount of formalin from the OT with correct labeling. We excluded the autolyzed specimens. The data was noted and quantitative analysis was done. The study was further compared with other previously reported studies. 52 cases were studied and majority of the cases were reported in the age group of 31-40yrs. 65.4% cases were non neoplastic, with testicular torsion being the commonest lesion. Amongthe 23.1% neoplastic cases that were reported, mixed germ cell tumor was the commonest (75%). Non neoplastic lesions are more common than neoplastic lesions. Torsion testis was the commonest indication for orchidectomy in younger age group. Despite newer techniques in imaging and tumor marker assays the diagnosis of testicular lesions is primarily dependent upon histopathological examination.</jats:p

Potpourri of the radiological feature of acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema

    No full text
Cardiogenic pulmonary edema is a usual finding in a radiographic investigation, and unilateral pulmonary edema (UPE) is a possibility. We present a rare case of a 60-year-old female with acute coronary syndrome, acute mitral regurgitation (MR), and UPE secondary to papillary muscle rupture. The MR led to UPE that recovered after mitral valve replacement and a coronary artery bypass graft. Thus, awareness of early detection and management of UPE associated with MR can save a patient's life in life-threatening conditions
