Theoretical and Computational Solutions for Phraseological Lexicography

the danish idiom dictionary has been criticized by Ken Farø to use a less than optimal theory in the description of what a phraseme really is. A closer examination of that theory, however, shows that this is not the case due to the hitherto neglected role of the common, non-academic user who has little need for an in-depth classification. The current article describes how the danish idiom dictionary puts the simplified theory into use and how a new and improved version currently under way improves on the theory by focusing on the user’s needs, thereby reducing the necessity for complicated classifications. the danish idiom dictionary including its search capabilities is described in full

PPi analogs as inhibitors of human T-lymphotropic virus type III reverse transcriptase

Twenty-six PPi analogs were tested for inhibitory effects on human T-lymphotropic virus type III reverse transcriptase. The structural requirements for inhibition and mechanism of action of the most active inhibitors have been investigated. Foscarnet (phosphonoformic acid) was the most potent inhibitor of human T-lymphotropic virus type III reverse transcriptase with 50% inhibition at 0.5 microM. The mechanism was a noncompetitive type of inhibition of a (riboadenylic acid)n . (deoxythymidylic acid)12-18 [(rA)n(dT)12-18]-directed transcription at varied dTTP concentration. At constant substrate (dTTP) concentration and varied amounts of template, (rA)n(dT)12-18, the inhibitory action of foscarnet was of an uncompetitive type. The same pattern of inhibition was seen when the less active inhibitor carbonyldiphosphonate was studied under identical conditions. The structural requirements for inhibition of human T-lymphotropic virus type III reverse transcriptase by PPi analogs were similar to those shown by other reverse transcriptases.</jats:p

Neurochemical Characterization of Body Weight-Regulating Leptin Receptor Neurons in the Nucleus of the Solitary Tract

The action of peripherally released leptin at long-form leptin receptors (LepRb) within the brain represents a fundamental axis in the regulation of energy homeostasis and body weight. Efforts to delineate the neuronal mediators of leptin action have recently focused on extrahypothalamic populations and have revealed that leptin action within the nucleus of the solitary tract (NTS) is critical for normal appetite and body weight regulation. To elucidate the neuronal circuits that mediate leptin action within the NTS, we employed multiple transgenic reporter lines to characterize the neurochemical identity of LepRb-expressing NTS neurons. LepRb expression was not detected in energy balance-associated NTS neurons that express cocaine- and amphetamine-regulated transcript, brain-derived neurotrophic factor, neuropeptide Y, nesfatin, catecholamines, γ-aminobutyric acid, prolactin-releasing peptide, or nitric oxide synthase. The population of LepRb-expressing NTS neurons was comprised of subpopulations marked by a proopiomelanocortin-enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) transgene and distinct populations that express proglucagon and/or cholecystokinin. The significance of leptin action on these three populations of NTS neurons was assessed in leptin-deficient Ob/Ob mice, revealing increased NTS proglucagon and cholecystokinin, but not proopiomelanocortin, expression. These data provide new insight into the appetitive brainstem circuits engaged by leptin

Ny dansk ordbog i seks bind for sekretærer og forskere

A new Scandinavian dictionary is in course of publication. The first volume of Den Danske Ordbog has been issued, and the sixth and last volume will be published in 2005. According to the publicity the dictionary will be very useful to an extensive user group consisting of pupils, students, teachers, researchers, journalists, secretaries, translators, writers, librarians, and – as it is put – people who are generally interested in keeping up with the development of the Danish language concurrently with the social and cultural changes. This contribution demonstrates that the dictionary partly, but only partly lives up to its own objective
