    Search for the Lepton-Flavor-Violating Decay τμη\tau^- \to \mu^- \eta at Belle

    Full text link
    We have searched for the Lepton Flavor Violating decay τμη\tau^- \to \mu^- \eta using a data sample of 84.3 fb1^{-1} accumulated with the Belle detector at KEK. The η\eta-meson was detected through the decay modes: ηγγ\eta \to \gamma\gamma and π+ππ0\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0. No signal candidates are found, and we obtain an upper limit for the branching fraction B(τμη)<3.4×107{\cal B}(\tau^- \to \mu^- \eta)<3.4\times 10^{-7} at the 90% confidence level.Comment: Submitted to Phys.Rev.Let

    Observation of B+- -> omega K+- Decay

    Full text link
    We report the first observation of the charmless two-body mode B±ωK±B^{\pm} \to \omega K^{\pm} decay, and a new measurement of the branching fraction for the B±ωπ±B^{\pm} \to \omega \pi^{\pm} decay. The measured branching fractions are B(B±ωK±)=(9.22.3+2.6±1.0)×106{\cal B} (B^{\pm} \to \omega K^{\pm}) = (9.2{}^{+2.6}_{-2.3}\pm 1.0) \times 10^{-6} and B(B±ωπ±)=(4.21.8+2.0±0.5)×106{\cal B} (B^{\pm} \to \omega \pi^{\pm}) = (4.2{}^{+2.0}_{-1.8}\pm 0.5) \times 10^{-6}. %and we set 90% confidence level upper limits of %B(Bωπ)<8.1×106{\cal B} (B^- \to \omega \pi^-) < 8.1\times 10^{-6}. We also measure the partial rate asymmetry of B±ωK±B^{\pm}\to\omega K^{\pm} decays and obtain ACP=0.21±0.28±0.03{\cal A}_{CP} = -0.21 \pm 0.28 \pm 0.03. The results are based on a data sample of 29.4 fb1^{-1} collected on the Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) resonance by the Belle detector at the KEKB e+ee^{+} e^{-} collider.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, resubmitted to Phys.     Measurement of K^+K^- production in two-photon collisions in the resonant-mass region

    Full text link
    K^+K^- production in two-photon collisions has been studied using a large data sample of 67 fb^{-1} accumulated with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric e^+e^- collider. We have measured the cross section for the process gamma gamma -> K^+ K^- for center-of-mass energies between 1.4 and 2.4 GeV, and found three new resonant structures in the energy region between 1.6 and 2.4 GeV. The angular differential cross sections have also been measured.Comment: 24 pages, 8 figures, to appear in Euro. Phys. Jour.

    Improved Constraints on D0-D0bar Mixing in D0 -> K+ pi- Decays from the Belle Detector

    Full text link
    We report the results of a search for D0-D0bar mixing in D0 -> K+ pi- decays based on 400 fb^{-1} of data accumulated by the Belle detector at KEKB. Both assuming CP conservation and allowing for CP violation, we fit the decay-time distribution for the mixing parameters x' and y', as well as for the parameter R_D, the ratio of doubly-Cabibbo-suppressed decays to Cabibbo-favored decays. The 95% confidence level region in the (x'^2,y') plane is obtained using a frequentist method. Assuming CP conservation, we find x'^2<0.72 x 10^{-3} and -9.9 x 10^{-3}<y'<6.8 x 10^{-3} at the 95% confidence level; these are the most stringent constraints on the mixing parameters to date. The no-mixing point (0,0) has a confidence level of 3.9%. Assuming no mixing, we measure R_D=(0.377+-0.008+-0.005)%.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, 1 table; replaced with the version of Phys. Rev. Let

    Observation of a near-threshold omega-J/psi mass enhancement in exclusive B-->K omega J/psi decays

    Full text link
    We report the observation of a near-threshold enhancement in the omega-J/psi invariant mass distribution for exclusive B-->K omega J/psi decays. The results are obtained from a 253 fb-1 data sample that contains 275 million BB-bar meson pairs that were collected near the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e+e- collider. The statistical significance of the omega-J/psi mass enhancement is estimated to be greater than 8 sigma.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, submitted to Physical Review Letter

    Observation of B+ -> proton Lambdabar gamma

    Full text link
    We report the first observation of the radiative hyperonic B decay B+ -> proton Lambdabar gamma, using a 140 fb-1 data sample recorded on the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e+e- collider. The measured branching fraction is B(B+ -> proton Lambdabar gamma) = (2.16 ^{+0.58}_{-0.53} +- 0.20) times 10^{-6}. A search for B+ -> proton Sigmabar gamma yields no significant signal, so we set a 90% confidence-level upper limit on the branching fraction of B(B+ -> proton Sigmabar gamma) < 3.3 times 10^{-6}.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, submitted to ICHEP2004, Beijing, Chin

    Observation of B0ˉ\bar{B^0} -> DsJ*(2317)+ K- decay

    Full text link
    The decays B0ˉDsJ+K\bar{B^0} \to D_{sJ}^+ K^- and B0ˉDsJπ+\bar{B^0} \to D_{sJ}^- \pi^+ are studied for the first time. A significant signal is observed in the B0ˉDsJ(2317)+K\bar{B^0} \to D_{sJ}^*(2317)^+ K^- decay channel with B(B0ˉDsJ(2317)+K)×B(DsJ(2317)+Ds+π0)=(5.31.3+1.5±0.7±1.4)×105{\cal B}(\bar{B^0} \to D_{sJ}^*(2317)^+ K^-) \times {\cal B} (D_{sJ}^*(2317)^+ \to D_s^+ \pi^0) = (5.3^{+1.5}_{-1.3} \pm 0.7 \pm 1.4) \times 10^{-5}. No signals are observed in the B0ˉDsJ(2317)π+\bar{B^0} \to D_{sJ}^*(2317)^- \pi^+, B0ˉDsJ(2460)+K\bar{B^0} \to D_{sJ}(2460)^+ K^- and B0ˉDsJ(2460)π+\bar{B^0} \to D_{sJ}(2460)^- \pi^+ decay modes, and upper limits are obtained. The analysis is based on a dataset of 140 fb1^{-1} collected by the Belle experiment at the asymmetric e+ee^+ e^- collider KEKB.Comment: 9 pages, 2 figures, submitted to PR

    Observation of B+ -> p pbar pi+, B0 -> p pbar K0, and B+ -> p pbar K*+

    Full text link
    We report the first observation of a b -> u type charmless baryonic B decay, B+ -> p pbar pi+, as well as b -> s type B0 -> p pbar K0 and B+ -> p pbar K*+ decays. The analysis is based on a 78fb^{-1} data sample recorded on the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at KEKB. We find BF(B+ -> p pbar pi+) = (3.06^{+0.73}_{-0.62} \pm 0.37)*10^{-6}, BF(B0 -> p pbar K0) =(1.88^{+0.77}_{-0.60} \pm 0.23)*10^{-6}, and BF(B+ -> p pbar K*+) = (10.3^{+3.6 + 1.3}_{-2.8 -1.7})*10^{-6}. We also update BF(B+ -> p pbar K+) = (5.66^{+0.67}_{-0.57} \pm 0.62)* 10^{-6}, and present an upper limit on BF(B0 -> p pbar K*0) at the 90% confidence level. A common feature of the observed decay modes is threshold peaking in baryon pair invariant mass.Comment: 10 pages, 12 figure file

    Measurement Of |V_ub| From Inclusive Charmless Semileptonic B Decays

    Full text link
    We present the partial branching fraction for inclusive charmless semileptonic B decays and the corresponding value of the CKM matrix element |Vub|, using a multivariate analysis method to access ~90% of the B -> Xu l nu phase space. This approach dramatically reduces the theoretical uncertainties from the b-quark mass and non-perturbative QCD compared to all previous inclusive measurements. The results are based on a sample of 657 million B -Bbar pairs collected with the Belle detector. We find that Delta BR(B -> Xu l nu; p^*B_l>1.0 GeV/c=1.963 x (1 +/- 0.088(stat.) +/- 0.081(sys.)) x 10^-3. Corresponding values of |Vub| are extracted using several theoretical calculations.Comment: 9 pages, 1 figure, 2 tables. Published in PR
