Atypical presentation of neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis type 8 in a sibling pair and review of the eye findings and neurological features.

Purpose:To report atypical presentation of neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses type 8 (CLN8) to the eye clinic and review clinical features of CLN8. Observations:Detailed eye exam by slit lamp exam, indirect ophthalmoscopy, fundus photography, optical coherence tomography, visual fields and electroretinogram (ERG). Molecular genetic testing using Next Generation Sequencing panel (NGS) and array Comparative Genomic Hybridization (aCGH).The siblings in this study presented to the eye clinic with retinitis pigmentosa and cystoid macular edema, and a history of seizures but no severe neurocognitive deficits or regression. Genetic testing identified a c.200C > T (p.A67V) variant in the CLN8 gene and a deletion encompassing the entire gene. Electron microscopy of lymphocytes revealed fingerprint inclusions in both siblings. Conclusions:and Importance: Pathogenic variants in CLN8 account for the retinitis pigmentosa and seizures in our patients however, currently, they do not have regression or neurocognitive decline. The presentation of NCL can be very diverse and it is important for ophthalmologists to consider this in the differential diagnosis of retinal disorders with seizures or other neurological features. Molecular genetic testing of multiple genes causing isolated and syndromic eye disorders using NGS panels and aCGH along with additional complementary testing may often be required to arrive at a definitive diagnosis

High yield synthesis and structures of some achiral and chiral (diphosphine)tetracarbonylchromium(0) chelate complexes with tetracarbonyl(norbornadiene)chromium(0) as complexation reagent

    Get PDF
Tetracarbonyl(norbornadiene)chromium(0) was used as complexation reagent in the synthesis of tetracarbonylchromium chelate complexes of dppe, dppb, dppf, DIOP, BINAP, and Tol-BINAP. In all cases the reactions took place under mild reaction conditions with excellent, almost quantitative yields. X-ray crystal structure analyses of the dppf and BINAP tetracarbonylchromium(0) complexes are presented.DF

Polymer-bound haloate(I) anions by iodine(III)-mediated oxidation of polymer-bound iodide: Synthetic utility in natural product transformations

    Get PDF
A set of polymer-attached hypervalent iodate(I) complexes were prepared from polymer-bound iodide anion by ligand transfer of acetate and trifluoro acetate present in the corresponding iodine(III) reagents onto the iodide anion. The synthetic versatility of these polymer-bound reagents in terms of efficacy and ease of workup is demonstrated for selected examples in natural product synthesis and natural product derivatization. Thus, iodoacetoxylation of glycals is the initial step for the preparation of two deoxygenated disaccharides which are part of the carbohydrate units of the landomycins. In a second example, a one-pot multistep rearrangement of the decanolide decarestrictine D backbone is shown which is initiated by iodotrifluoroacylation of the olefinic double bond.Fonds der Chemischen Industri

Physiologic s100b concentrations reduces glucose uptake in c6 astroglial cells

    Get PDF
Astrocytes are the most common cells present in the brain and they are responsible for metabolic support, characterized mainly for their close interaction with neurons. Some glial markers are well recognized, as S100B, a calcium binding protein that plays important intra and extracellular roles in central nervous system. This protein is implicated in glial-neuron communication, presenting neurotrophic or neurotoxic properties, depending on its concentration. Among the models available to study astrocytes, C6 glioma cells in later than 100 passages are very useful, because have properties that are characteristic of the glial cells. The objective of the present work is to evaluate the effect of physiological concentration of exogenous S100B on glucose uptake in C6 astroglial cells. We observed a reduction of glucose uptake in the presence of exogenous S100B, and the incubation with anti-S100B antibody reversed this effect. The incubation with anti-RAGE antibody also reversed this effect, demonstrating that this receptor is involved in the S100B effect. However, further studies are necessary to unveil the S100B mechanism of action

Alimentador automático para animais de pequeno porte

    Get PDF
Neste projeto, o motor atuador é controlado pelo microcontrolador através de um firmware desenvolvido em linguagem C++.This project aims to automate the feeding process for small pets for pet owners who are not able to stay at home throughout the day. The feeder provides the option to feed the pet automatically with the specified amount set by the owner and to schedule feeding times along with the amount to be dispensed for the pet. This scheduling is done through an easy-to-access and intuitive web page. The project utilizes two main components: an ESP32 microcontroller, which manages the creation of the web page and stores the feeding times set by the user, and a stepper motor that, as an actuator, will dispense the food according to the user’s specifications. In this project, the actuator motor is controlled by the microcontroller through firmware developed in C++ language
