A Pseudo DNA Cryptography Method
The DNA cryptography is a new and very promising direction in cryptography
research. DNA can be used in cryptography for storing and transmitting the
information, as well as for computation. Although in its primitive stage, DNA
cryptography is shown to be very effective. Currently, several DNA computing
algorithms are proposed for quite some cryptography, cryptanalysis and
steganography problems, and they are very powerful in these areas. However, the
use of the DNA as a means of cryptography has high tech lab requirements and
computational limitations, as well as the labor intensive extrapolation means
so far. These make the efficient use of DNA cryptography difficult in the
security world now. Therefore, more theoretical analysis should be performed
before its real applications.
In this project, We do not intended to utilize real DNA to perform the
cryptography process; rather, We will introduce a new cryptography method based
on central dogma of molecular biology. Since this method simulates some
critical processes in central dogma, it is a pseudo DNA cryptography method.
The theoretical analysis and experiments show this method to be efficient in
computation, storage and transmission; and it is very powerful against certain
attacks. Thus, this method can be of many uses in cryptography, such as an
enhancement insecurity and speed to the other cryptography methods. There are
also extensions and variations to this method, which have enhanced security,
effectiveness and applicability.Comment: A small work that quite some people asked abou
Geldanamycin-induced osteosarcoma cell death is associated with hyperacetylation and loss of mitochondrial pool of heat shock protein 60 (hsp60)
Osteosarcoma is one of the most malignant tumors of childhood and adolescence that is often resistant to standard chemo- and radio-therapy. Geldanamycin and geldanamycin analogs have been recently studied as potential anticancer agents for osteosarcoma treatment. Here, for the first time, we have presented novel anticancer mechanisms of geldanamycin biological activity. Moreover, we demonstrated an association between the effects of geldanamycin on the major heat shock proteins (HSPs) and the overall survival of highly metastatic human osteosarcoma 143B cells. We demonstrated that the treatment of 143B cells with geldanamycin caused a subsequent upregulation of cytoplasmic Hsp90 and Hsp70 whose activity is at least partly responsible for cancer development and drug resistance. On the other hand, geldanamycin induced upregulation of Hsp60 gene expression, and a simultaneous loss of hyperacetylated Hsp60 mitochondrial protein pool resulting in decreased viability and augmented cancer cell death. Hyperacetylation of Hsp60 seems to be associated with anticancer activity of geldanamycin. In light of the fact that mitochondrial dysfunction plays a critical role in the apoptotic signaling pathway, the presented data may support a hypothesis that Hsp60 can be another functional part of mitochondria-related acetylome being a potential target for developing novel anticancer strategies

Another expert system rule inference based on DNA molecule logic gates
With the help of silicon industry microfluidic processors were invented utilizing nano membrane valves, pumps and mi-croreactors. These so called lab-on-a-chips combined together with molecular computing create molecular-systems-on-a-chips. This work presents a new approach to implementation of molecular inference systems. It requires the unique representation of signals by DNA molecules. The main part of this work includes the concept of logic gates based on typical genetic engineering reactions. The presented method allows for constructing logic gates with many inputs and for executing them at the same quantity of elementary operations, regardless of a number of input signals. Every microreactor of the lab-on-a-chip performs one unique operation on input molecules and can be connected by dataflow output-input connections to other ones

Radiation enteropathy: prevention and treatment
Surgical considerations in the management of radiation-induced injury of the gastrointestinal tract include the prevention of future radiation injury and treatment of the complications of established chronic radiation enteropathy. At the time of operation for abdominal or pelvic malignancy, the surgeon must be aware of the indications for and techniques of postoperative radiation therapy. Careful preoperative staging and close cooperation between the surgeon and the radiation therapist should allow for the planning of measured designes to position the small bowel intraoperatively such that it will receive the minimal possible radiation exposure during the course of postoperative radiotherapy.Surgical management of chronic radiation enteropathy is concerned with treatment of the complications of obstruction, fistulization, infection and bleeding. The distal small intestine and the rectum are the areas involve most frequently. Partial obstructive symptoms are best treated nonoperatively until complete obstruction ensues on until the symptoms are incapacitating. These operations can be extremely difficult. Principles of operative management include resection (whenever feasible and safe) with primary anastomosis between healthy, nonirradiated segments of bowel. Radiation proctitis is also best managed conservatively with laser therapy of rectal bleeding and supportive care of symptomatic tenesmus. When symptoms are sufficiently severe to warrant surgical intervention, protectomy with a permanent end-sigmoid colostomy is the treatment of choice.Fistula formation and pelvic sepsis are the most challenging complications associated with radiation enteropathy and may require staged procedures for management
Characterization of a new pathway that activates lumisterol in vivo to biologically active hydroxylumisterols
Abstract Using LC/qTOF-MS we detected lumisterol, 20-hydroxylumisterol, 22-hydroxylumisterol, 24-hydroxylumisterol, 20,22-dihydroxylumisterol, pregnalumisterol, 17-hydroxypregnalumisterol and 17,20-dihydroxypregnalumisterol in human serum and epidermis, and the porcine adrenal gland. The hydroxylumisterols inhibited proliferation of human skin cells in a cell type-dependent fashion with predominant effects on epidermal keratinocytes. They also inhibited melanoma proliferation in both monolayer and soft agar. 20-Hydroxylumisterol stimulated the expression of several genes, including those associated with keratinocyte differentiation and antioxidative responses, while inhibiting the expression of others including RORA and RORC. Molecular modeling and studies on VDRE-transcriptional activity excludes action through the genomic site of the VDR. However, their favorable interactions with the A-pocket in conjunction with VDR translocation studies suggest they may act on this non-genomic VDR site. Inhibition of RORα and RORγ transactivation activities in a Tet-on CHO cell reporter system, RORα co-activator assays and inhibition of (RORE)-LUC reporter activity in skin cells, in conjunction with molecular modeling, identified RORα and RORγ as excellent receptor candidates for the hydroxylumisterols. Thus, we have discovered a new biologically relevant, lumisterogenic pathway, the metabolites of which display biological activity. This opens a new area of endocrine research on the effects of the hydroxylumisterols on different pathways in different cells and the mechanisms involved
54. Lymphatic mapping and sentinel lymphnode Biopsy in breast cancer patients in clinical stage T1-T2 NO MO
The authors report the feasibility an accuracy of intraoperative sentinel lymphnode biopsy (SLN) in patients with operable breast cancer to test the hypothesis that the histologic characteristic of SLN predicts the histologic status of remaining lymph nodes in the axilla. In between August 1999 and May 2000 to SLN biopsy there were 124 patients enrolled with median age of 55,2 years of age. All patients had operable breast cancer and all axillary lymphnodes were clinically negative.A day before surgery 4 cc of Nannocol marked with Tc99 was injected subcutuanesly nearby the tumor bed and an hour later the lymphoscyntygraphy was performed to achieve axillary lymphnodes mapping. Then immediately prior to surgery Blue Dye Patent Blau V was injected in the same manner as the radiological marker. Then with the use of hand – held gamma probe the hotspot was defined and marked. Five to ten minutes later first cut was performed over marked hotspot. After visualization of stained lymph vassals the SLN was traced and confirmed with high dose output (using the Neoprobe) and then was harvested for histologic examination. After this all patients were submitted for regular lymphadenectomy regardless main surgery type (mastectomy or BCT).Employing above method we were able to define SLN in 93,3%, only in 6,7% of our patients identification failed. In the group with defined SLN we found cancer cells deposits only in 20%. And in that group remaining lymphnodes had cancer metastasis in almost 80%. We had two cases of false negative results but still our specify rate was over 97%.In conclusion we think that SLN biopsy is quite safe and efficient method to evaluate axillary lymphnodes status in patients with operable early stage breast cancer. Our findings are also confirmed by other authors world wide
