SDO/AIA Observations of Secondary Waves Generated by Interaction of the 2011 June 7 Global EUV Wave With Solar Coronal Structures
We present SDO/AIA observations of the interaction of a global EUV wave on
2011 June 7 with active regions (ARs), coronal holes (CHs) and coronal bright
structures. The primary global wave has a three-dimensional dome shape, with
propagation speeds ranging from 430-780 km/s in different directions. The
primary coronal wave runs in front of the expanding loops involved in the CME
and its propagation speeds are approximately constant within 10-20 minutes.
Upon arrival at an AR on its path, the primary EUV wave apparently disappears
and a secondary wave rapidly reemerges 75 Mm within the AR boundary at a
similar speed. When the EUV wave encounters a coronal bright structure, an
additional wave front appears there and propagates in front of it at a velocity
nearly a factor of 2 faster. Reflected waves from a polar CH and a coronal
bright structure are observed and propagate fractionally slower than the
primary waves. Some of these phenomena can be equally explained by either a
wave or non-wave model alone. However, taken together, these observations
provide new evidence for the multitudes of global EUV waves, in which a true
MHD fast-mode wave or shock propagates in front of an expanding CME bubble.Comment: 17 pages, 6 figures, ApJ in pres
Revealing Tripartite Quantum Discord with Tripartite Information Diagram
A new measure based on the tripartite information diagram is proposed for
identifying quantum discord in tripartite systems. The proposed measure
generalizes the mutual information underlying discord from bipartite to
tripartite systems, and utilizes both one-particle and two-particle projective
measurements to reveal the characteristics of the tripartite quantum discord.
The feasibility of the proposed measure is demonstrated by evaluating the
tripartite quantum discord for systems with states close to
Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger, W, and biseparable states. In addition, the
connections between tripartite quantum discord and two other quantum
correlations---namely genuine tripartite entanglement and genuine tripartite
Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering---are briefly discussed. The present study
considers the case of quantum discord in tripartite systems. However, the
proposed framework can be readily extended to general N-partite systems
Colour Design for Carton-Packed Fruit Juice Packages
The present research studies the relationships between observers’ expectations for 7 fruit juice packages and the colour design of the package. To do this, a two-stage experiment was conducted. At the first stage, we studied perceived colours for the fruit images shown on each package. At the second stage, fruit juice packages with 20 package colours were rated using 5 bipolar scales: colour harmony, preference, freshness, naturalness and product quality. The experimental results show that the observers tended to perceive fruit image colours lighter and more saturated than those measured using colour measuring instruments. Using factor analyses, we classified the 5 bipolar scales into 2 factors: Product Preference and Freshness. Package colour design was found to have significant impacts on both factors: similarity in chroma and hue between package colour and perceived fruit colour would lead to high product expectations.
