LHC Search of New Higgs Boson via Resonant Di-Higgs Production with Decays into 4W
Searching for new Higgs particle beyond the observed light Higgs boson
h(125GeV) will unambiguously point to new physics beyond the standard model. We
study the resonant production of a CP-even heavy Higgs state in the
di-Higgs channel via, , at the LHC Run-2 and
the high luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). We analyze two types of the decay modes,
one with the same-sign di-leptons () and the
other with tri-leptons (). We
perform a full simulation for the signals and backgrounds, and estimate the
discovery potential of the heavy Higgs state at the LHC Run-2 and the HL-LHC,
in the context of generical two-Higgs-doublet models (2HDM). We determine the
viable parameter space of the 2HDM as allowed by the theoretical constraints
and the current experimental limits. We systematically analyze the allowed
parameter space of the 2HDM which can be effectively probed by the heavy Higgs
searches of the LHC, and further compare this with the viable parameter region

Spectrum of malignancies among the population of adults living with HIV infection in China: A nationwide follow-up study, 2008-2011.
BackgroundAlthough increasingly studied in high-income countries, there is a paucity of data from the Chinese population on the patterns of cancer among people living with HIV (PLHIV).MethodsWe conducted a nationwide follow-up study using routinely collected data for adult PLHIV diagnosed on or before 31 December 2011 and alive and in care as of 1 January 2008. Participants were observed from 1 January 2008 (study start) to 30 June 2012 (study end). Main outcome measures were gender-stratified age-standardized incidence rates for China (ASIRC) and standardized incidence ratios (SIR) for all malignancy types/sites observed.ResultsAmong 399,451 subjects, a majority was aged 30-44 years (49.3%), male (69.8%), and Han Chinese (67.9%). A total of 3,819 reports of cancer were identified. Overall, ASIRC was 776.4 per 100,000 for males and 486.5 per 100,000 for females. Malignancy sites/types with highest ASIRC among males were lung (226.0 per 100,000), liver (145.7 per 100,000), and lymphoma (63.1 per 100,000), and among females were lung (66.8 per 100,000), lymphoma (48.0 per 100,000), stomach (47.8 per 100,000), and cervix (47.6 per 100,000). Overall SIR for males was 3.4 and for females was 2.6. Highest SIR was observed for Kaposi sarcoma (2,639.8 for males, 1,593.5 for females) and lymphoma (13.9 for males, 16.0 for females).ConclusionsThese results provide evidence of substantial AIDS-defining and non-AIDS-defining cancer burden among adult Chinese PLHIV between 2008 and 2011. Although further study is warranted, China should take action to improve cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatment for this vulnerable population
Mechanical design and analysis for a low beta squeezed half-wave resonator
A superconducting half-wave resonator (HWR) of frequency=162.5 MHz and
{\beta}=0.09 has been developed at Institute of Modern Physics. Mechanical
stability of the low beta HWR cavity is a big challenge in cavity design and
optimization. The mechanical deformations of a radio frequency superconducting
cavity could be a source of instability, both in continues wave(CW) operation
or in pulsed mode. Generally, the lower beta cavities have stronger Lorentz
force detuning than that of the higher beta cavities. In this paper, a basic
design consideration in the stiffening structure for the detuning effect caused
by helium pressure and Lorentz force has been presented. The mechanical modal
analysis has been investigated with finite element method(FEM). Based on these
considerations, a new stiffening structure has been promoted for the HWR
cavity. The computation results concerning the frequency shift show that the
low beta HWR cavity with new stiffening structure has low frequency sensitivity
coefficient, Lorentz force detuning coefficient KL and stable mechanical

Giant palaeo-landslide dammed the Yangtze river
Field evidence is presented to demonstrate that a very large landslide blocked the Jinsha River (the main stem of the Yangtze) near the present day town of Qiaojia, Yunnan Province. The discovery is significant because no persistent river-blocking landslide has been reported so far downstream in a major catchment. At the location of the landslide dam the upstream catchment area is 445 × 103 km^2. Sediments deposited behind the dam indicate that the minimum crest height was approximately 200 m with a lake volume of 11.4 +/− 1.3 km^3. The landslide occurred on the western (Sichuan) side of the river and displaced an estimated volume of at least 3.75 km^3, with material riding up to 550 m above the river on the eastern (Yunnan) side of the valley. The location is at the intersection of the Xiaojiang and Zemuhe fault zones which form part of the eastern boundary fault of the Sichuan-Yunnan Fault Block, an area where many earthquakes exceeding magnitude 7.0 have been documented in the historical record
Geochronological, elemental and Sr-Nd-Hf-O isotopic constraints on the petrogenesis of the Triassic post-collisional granitic rocks in NW Thailand and its Paleotethyan implications
This study was jointly funded by the National Science Foundation of China (41190073), National Basic Research Program of China (2014CB440901 and 2016YFC0600303) and the Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities to SYSU.New U-Pb geochronological, petrologic, elemental and Sr-Nd-Hf-O isotopic data for the granites from the Inthanon and Sukhothai zones in NW Thailand in conjunction with correlations with SW China are presented to constrain the age and position of the Paleotethys Ocean in this region and the associated assembly of Southeast Asia. The geochronological data show that the granitic rocks in the Inthanon and Sukhothai zones, herein named Group 1 and Group 2 granites, respectively, yield similar crystallization ages of 230-200 Ma. Group 1 samples are characterized by monzogranite and granite with I- and S-type geochemical affinity and Group 2 samples by I-type monzogranite and granodiorite. They have generally similar chondrite-normalized REE and PM- normalized multi-element patterns but distinct Sr-Nd-Hf-O isotopic compositions. Group 1 samples have slightly higher initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.7111- 0.7293) but lower εNd(t) values (-11.1 ~ -14.1) than those of Group 2 samples (87Sr/86Sr(i)=0.7073-0.7278 and εNd(t)=-8.3 ~ -11.0). Group 1 samples show the lower εHf(t) values (-5.4 ~ -18.2), older TDM (1.62-2.40 Ga) and higher δ18O values (+ 7.95-+9.94) than those of Group 2 samples (εHf(t) of -11.1-+4.80, TDM of 0.96-1.95 Ga and δ18O of + 4.95 ~+7.98) for the Triassic crystallization zircons. These geochemical signatures are similar to the Kwangsian and Indosinian granites in the South China and Indochina blocks but distinct from those of the Gangdese I-type granite and Sibumasu Paleozoic granite. Our data suggest that Group 1 samples mainly originated from the early Paleozoic supracrustal rocks containing metapelite and metavolcanic components, which had previously experienced the surface weathering. Group 2 samples were derived from a hybridized source of an old metamorphic and a newly underplated mafic component. Synthesis of our data with available regional observations indicate that the Inthanon zone represents the main suture zone of the eastern Paleotethyan Ocean in NW Thailand and links with the Changning-Menglian suture zone in SW Yunnan (SW China). In NW Thailand, a switch from the eastward subduction of the Paleotethyan oceanic plate to the collision of the Sibumasu with Indochina blocks occurred at ~ 237 Ma, and syn- and post-collisional time being at ~ 237-230 Ma and ~ 200-230 Ma, respectively. The late Triassic granites in the Inthanon and Sukhothai zones are representative of the post-collisional magmatic products.PostprintPeer reviewe
