De regio Boskoop is al eeuwenlang het centrum voor de boomteelt in Nederland en Europa. In het kader van de streekplanherziening Zuid-Holland Oost is in opdracht van het Platform Sierteelt Regio Boskoop op basis van trends uit het verleden en de verwachte, toekomstige ontwikkelingen in de boomteeltsector een schatting gemaak van de toekomstige ruimtebehoefte voor de boomteelt in de regio Boskoop

Bomen over ruimte: een studie naar de toekomstige ruimtebehoefte voor de boomteelt in de regio Boskoop

In het kader van de streekplanherziening Zuid-Holland Oost is een schatting gemaakt van de toekomstige ruimtebehoefte voor de boomteelt in de regio Boskoop tot 2015. Op basis van toekomstige ontwikkelingen in de vraag naar boomteeltproducten, de (inter)nationale concurrentiepositie van de boomteelt in de regio Boskoop en de bedrijfsstructuur is de extra ruimtebehoefte geschat op 2% per jaar. Het totale areaal boomteelt in 2015 komt hiermee op 1.435 ha (+ 335 ha), waarvan de helft pot- en containerteelt en de helft in de vollegrond. Ook zal tot 2015 de teelt onder glas gestaag toenemen. Om het boomteeltcentrum in de regio Boskoop in stand te houden is niet alleen behoefte aan extra ruimte, maar zal ook voldaan moeten worden aan een aantal kwalitatieve randvoorwaarden. De belangrijkste randvoorwaarden zijn: planologische zekerheid, ruimte voor ondersteunend glas, goede bedrijfsstructuur, goede infrastructuur, kwalitatief goed opgeleid personeel en professioneel ondernemersscha

Thickness dependence study of current-driven ferromagnetic resonance in Y3Fe5O12/heavy metal bilayers

We use ferromagnetic resonance to study the current-induced torques in YIG/heavy metal bilayers. YIG samples with thickness varying from 14.8 nm to 80 nm, with the Pt or Ta thin film on top, are measured by applying a microwave current into the heavy metals and measuring the longitudinal DC voltage generated by both spin rectification and spin pumping. From a symmetry analysis of the FMR lineshape and its dependence on YIG thickness, we deduce that the Oersted field dominates over spin-transfer torque in driving magnetization dynamics

Applying a User-centred Approach to Interactive Visualization Design

Analysing users in their context of work and finding out how and why they use different information resources is essential to provide interactive visualisation systems that match their goals and needs. Designers should actively involve the intended users throughout the whole process. This chapter presents a user-centered approach for the design of interactive visualisation systems. We describe three phases of the iterative visualisation design process: the early envisioning phase, the global specification hase, and the detailed specification phase. The whole design cycle is repeated until some criterion of success is reached. We discuss different techniques for the analysis of users, their tasks and domain. Subsequently, the design of prototypes and evaluation methods in visualisation practice are presented. Finally, we discuss the practical challenges in design and evaluation of collaborative visualisation environments. Our own case studies and those of others are used throughout the whole chapter to illustrate various approaches

Historic evolution and urban planning typology of Olympic Village

Article providing a broad historical overview of the role and typology of Olympic villages along the history of the Modern Olympic Games. Boskoop en Bollenstreek. Hoe innig is de samenwerking

In het kader van de streekplanherziening Zuid-Holland Oost is in opdracht van de provincie Zuid-Holland onderzoek gedaan naar de autonome ontwikkeling van het boomteeltcomplex Boskoop en de interacties met het bloembollencomplex 'De Bollenstreek'. Om het belang van het boomteeltcomplex binnen het sierteeltcomplex Zuid-Holland te duiden zijn ook de interacties met de bloemisterij in kaart gebracht. De interacties tussen Boskoop en de Bollenstreek blijven beperkt tot een gecombineerde afzet van bloembollen en een beperkt assortiment boomteeltproducten, met name vaste planten. Mede door het groeiende belang van de bloemenveilingen in de afzet van boomteeltproducten en de toenemende vraag naar visueel aantrekkelijke boomteeltproducten is de interactie tussen Boskoop en het bloemisterijcomplex Zuid-Holland veel sterker. Vanwege de aanwezigheid van een groot assortiment aan boomteeltproducten, de beschikbaarheid van veel kennis en vakmanschap, korte transportlijnen naar de veilingen en de centrale ligging heeft Boskoop een belangrijke meerwaarde binnen het sierteeltcomplex Zuid-Holland

“It’s hard to tell”. The challenges of scoring patients on standardised outcome measures by multidisciplinary teams: a case study of Neurorehabilitation

Background Interest is increasing in the application of standardised outcome measures in clinical practice. Measures designed for use in research may not be sufficiently precise to be used in monitoring individual patients. However, little is known about how clinicians and in particular, multidisciplinary teams, score patients using these measures. This paper explores the challenges faced by multidisciplinary teams in allocating scores on standardised outcome measures in clinical practice. Methods Qualitative case study of an inpatient neurorehabilitation team who routinely collected standardised outcome measures on their patients. Data were collected using non participant observation, fieldnotes and tape recordings of 16 multidisciplinary team meetings during which the measures were recited and scored. Eleven clinicians from a range of different professions were also interviewed. Data were analysed used grounded theory techniques. Results We identified a number of instances where scoring the patient was 'problematic'. In 'problematic' scoring, the scores were uncertain and subject to revision and adjustment. They sometimes required negotiation to agree on a shared understanding of concepts to be measured and the guidelines for scoring. Several factors gave rise to this problematic scoring. Team members' knowledge about patients' problems changed over time so that initial scores had to be revised or dismissed, creating an impression of deterioration when none had occurred. Patients had complex problems which could not easily be distinguished from each other and patients themselves varied in their ability to perform tasks over time and across different settings. Team members from different professions worked with patients in different ways and had different perspectives on patients' problems. This was particularly an issue in the scoring of concepts such as anxiety, depression, orientation, social integration and cognitive problems. Conclusion From a psychometric perspective these problems would raise questions about the validity, reliability and responsiveness of the scores. However, from a clinical perspective, such characteristics are an inherent part of clinical judgement and reasoning. It is important to highlight the challenges faced by multidisciplinary teams in scoring patients on standardised outcome measures but it would be unwarranted to conclude that such challenges imply that these measures should not be used in clinical practice for decision making about individual patients. However, our findings do raise some concerns about the use of such measures for performance management

Digging Up the Dirt: China\u27s Exploitation of Transgenic Seed Approvals

In 2013, China rejected shipments of U.S. corn imports due to the presence of an unapproved transgenic trait, creating an international trade disruption that sent ripples throughout the U.S. agriculture industry and grain markets. Syngenta, the seed company that began selling the trait to U.S. farmers prior to receiving China\u27s import approval, largely shouldered the blame. U.S. farmers held Syngenta singularly liable and initiated a class action in an attempt to force Syngenta to pay for the drop in grain prices due to the disruption. The highly publicized domestic legal dispute left China\u27s opportunistic actions largely unnoticed. The time has come to provide context to the circumstances surrounding China\u27s actions in the 2013 trade fiasco. The United States can no longer ignore China\u27s international trade violations, especially in light of the drastic consequences of the class action lawsuit. Holding Syngenta liable without addressing China\u27s delinquent regulatory system will set a dangerous precedent for seed companies and threaten the future of agricultural innovation. This Comment argues that the United States should file a World Trade Organization complaint against China for its violations of international trade agreements to ensure that agricultural technology companies can make informed commercialization decisions and deliver U.S. farmers needed products without fear of future international trade disruptions

Change in what matters to palliative patients: Eliciting information about adaptation with SEIQoL-DW

This study was carried out to investigate the usefulness of the SEIQoL-DW to elicit information about response shifts in palliative patients. The instrument measures individual quality of life and allows respondents to choose, rate and weight important areas of life (cues). We explored patients' reconceptualizations (ie, change in cues) and their value change (ie, change of cues weights). Results of 21 patients showed what mattered to these patients and how they had adjusted to deteriorating health. There is a risk that repeated measurements do not provide all the information that is potentially present and relevant to explore response shifts. But clear instructions to interviewers, such as careful listening, probing self-evident cues such as health and family, and accurate recording of cues on the forms may overcome this risk. Future research is recommended to explore the possibilities of regular assessments to facilitate better adjustment of patients
