Lower bound for the mean square distance between classical and quantum spin correlations
Bell's theorem prevents local Kolmogorov-simulations of the singlet state of
two spin-1/2 particles. We derive a positive lower bound for the -distance between the quantum mechanical spin singlet anticorrelation function
and any of its classical approximants formed by the stationary
autocorrelation functions of mean-square-continuous, -periodic,
-valued, stochastic processes. This bound is given by Comment: 11 pages, no figure
CONVIS: A tool enabling uninterrupted operation during refurbishments of complex buildings
Clash Detection refers to the identification of geometrical overlaps within a Building Information Model (BIM). This paper seeks to extend the notion of overlapping to activities: Given a construction site within a building, we seek to find clashes between construction activities and occupant routines. Such a situation is often encountered in the context of refurbishments of complex buildings operating 24/7 (e.g. airports, train stations, hospitals, prisons). By finding the influence radii of adverse effects resulting from construction - i.e. dust, noise and vibrations, functions may be temporarily relocated in order to guarantee uninterrupted operation. Our tool CONVIS implements these simulation and scheduling aspects and seeks to provide a digital project plan for refurbishments in the said context
On the stability of the boundary trace of the polynomial L^2-projection on triangles and tetrahedra (extended version)
For the reference triangle or tetrahedron , we study the stability
properties of the -projection onto the space of polynomials of
degree . We show . This implies optimal convergence rates for the approximation
error for all ,
Noise Solver for Refurbishment Construction Site Design
The noise generated by the presence of a construction site within complex structure in operation (e.g. school, hospital) is a problem that too often is underestimated but that can generate problems of different nature, both concerning the health of the actors involved and regarding the performance of daily activities present within such structures (e.g. carrying out a lesson, a surgical procedure). The main aim of our tool is to highlight the impact of the noise generated by the construction site activities on these daily activities and to allow the simulation in real time of the viable solutions, thus arriving to find the one that is considered most suitable
A Microanalytical Simulation Model to Predict the Long-Term Evolution of Employment Biographies in Austria: The Demographics Module
The well-known problems of decreasing birth rates and population
ageing represent a major challenge for the Austrian pension system. It is
expected that the group of pensioners will grow steadily in the future, while
the proportion of people that support them - the taxpayers - will shrink. In
this regard, microsimulation provides a valuable tool to identify the impact
of various policy measures. With microsimulation, it is not only possible
to predict cross-sectional data (e.g., the distribution of age groups in 2050),
but also to simulate lifecourses of people, providing longitudinal outcomes.
The demographics module is the first in a series of modules that are part of
a microsimulation prototype. This prototype is being developed in order to
predict the long-term evolution of Employment Biographies in Austria
The Literary Interpretation of Edwin Erich Dwinger’s War Experience
The article was submitted on 24.12.2013.The present article analyzes how the writer, Edwin Erich Dwinger (1898–1982), the bestselling German author in the Third Reich, collected into his novels experiences of being a prisoner of war in Russia during the First World War. After an overview of current theories of war literature, the author focuses on Dwinger’s principal work, Army behind barbed wire. In this novel, Dwinger’s description of Russia is analyzed by distinguishing fact and fiction and by outlining the perception of the book by contemporary literary critics. The main thesis of the article is that Dwinger’s novel reflected the spirit of the times, especially in his description of Russia, which allowed the book to become a bestseller, in spite of clear inconsistencies and its questionable literary quality.
