Bar-induced central star formation as revealed by integral field spectroscopy from CALIFA
We investigate the recent star formation history (SFH) in the inner region of
57 nearly face-on spiral galaxies selected from the Calar Alto Legacy Integral
Field Area (CALIFA) survey. For each galaxy we use the integral field
spectroscopy from CALIFA to obtain two-dimensional maps and radial profiles of
three parameters that are sensitive indicators of the recent SFH: the 4000\AA\
break (D(4000)), and the equivalent width of H absorption
(EW(H)) and H emission (EW(H)). We have also
performed photometric decomposition of bulge/bar/disk components based on SDSS
optical image. We identify a class of 17 "turnover" galaxies whose central
region present significant drop in D(4000), and most of them
correspondingly show a central upturn in EW(H) and EW(H).
This indicates that the central region of the turnover galaxies has experienced
star formation in the past 1-2 Gyr, which makes the bulge younger and more
star-forming than surrounding regions. We find almost all (15/17) the turnover
galaxies are barred, while only half of the barred galaxies in our sample
(15/32) are classified as a turnover galaxy. This finding provides strong
evidence in support of the theoretical expectation that the bar may drive gas
from the disc inward to trigger star formation in galaxy center, an important
channel for the growth/rejuvenation of pseudobulges in disc galaxies.Comment: 19 pages, 10 figures, ApJ accepte
Gender Differences in Depressive Symptoms Among HIV-Positive Concordant and Discordant Heterosexual Couples in China.
HIV seropositive individuals and their heterosexual partners/spouses, either seropositive or seronegative, are facing several mental health challenges. The objective of this study was to examine gender differences in depressive symptoms among HIV-positive concordant and HIV-discordant couples. We identified heterosexual couples from participants of a randomized controlled trial conducted in Anhui province, China. A total of 265 couples, comprising 129 HIV+ male/HIV- female couples, 98 HIV- male/HIV+ female couples, and 38 HIV-positive concordant couples, were included in the analyses. We collected data using the computer-assisted personal interview method. We used a linear mixed-effects regression model to assess whether gender differences in depressive symptoms varied across couple types. HIV-positive women reported a significantly higher level of depressive symptoms than their partners/spouses. HIV-positive women with HIV-positive partners had higher depressive symptoms than those with HIV-negative partners, whereas HIV-positive men reported similar levels of depressive symptoms regardless of their partners' serostatus. Among the concordant couples, those with the highest annual family income showed the greatest gender differences in depressive symptoms. We suggest that family interventions should be gender- and couple-type specific and that mental health counseling is warranted not only for HIV-positive women but also for HIV-negative women in an HIV-affected relationship
Achievable Sum Rates of Half- and Full-Duplex Bidirectional OFDM Communication Links
While full-duplex (FD) transmission has the potential to double the system
capacity, its substantial benefit can be offset by the self-interference (SI)
and non-ideality of practical transceivers. In this paper, we investigate the
achievable sum rates (ASRs) of half-duplex (HD) and FD transmissions with
orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), where the non-ideality is
taken into consideration. Four transmission strategies are considered, namely
HD with uniform power allocation (UPA), HD with non-UPA (NUPA), FD with UPA,
and FD with NUPA. For each of the four transmission strategies, an optimization
problem is formulated to maximize its ASR, and a (suboptimal/optimal) solution
with low complexity is accordingly derived. Performance evaluations and
comparisons are conducted for three typical channels, namely symmetric
frequency-flat/selective and asymmetric frequency-selective channels. Results
show that the proposed solutions for both HD and FD transmissions can achieve
near optimal performances. For FD transmissions, the optimal solution can be
obtained under typical conditions. In addition, several observations are made
on the ASR performances of HD and FD transmissions.Comment: To appear in IEEE TVT. This paper solves the problem of sum

and power allocation is involve
Multi-color light curves and orbital period research of eclipsing binary V1073 Cyg
New Multi-color photometric observation are presented for
W UMa type eclipsing binary V1073 Cyg. The multi-color light curves analysis
with the Wilson-Devinney(W-D) procedure acquired the absolute parameters of
this system, showing that V1073Cyg is a shallow contact binary system with
fill-out factor . We collected all available times of light
minima spanning 119 years including CCD data to construct the O-C curve and
made detailed O-C analysis. The O-C diagram shows that the period change is
complex. There exist a long-term continuous decrease and a cyclic variation.
The period is decreasing at a rate of
, and with the period decrease, V1073 Cyg will evolve to
deep contact stage. The cyclic variation with a period of and an amplitude of may be explained by the
magnetic activity of one or both components or the light travel time effect
(LTTE) caused by a distant third companion with

Holographic Gas as Dark Energy
We investigate the statistical nature of holographic gas, which may represent
the quasi-particle excitations of a strongly correlated gravitational system.
We find that the holographic entropy can be obtained by modifying degeneracy.
We calculate thermodynamical quantities and investigate stability of the
holographic gas. When applying to cosmology, we find that the holographic gas
behaves as holographic dark energy, and the parameter in holographic dark
energy can be calculated from our model. Our model of holographic gas generally
predicts , implying that the fate of our universe is phantom like.Comment: 13 page
