Intercultural communication - integration potential in teaching foreign students
Detailed investigation of the morphology of the pore space in clay is a key
factor in understanding the sealing capacity, coupled flows, capillary processes
and associated deformation present in mudstones. Actually, the combination of
ion milling tools (FIB and BIB), cryogenic techniques and SEM imaging offers a
new alternative to study in-situ elusive microstructures in wet geomaterials and
has the high potential to make a step change in our understanding of how fluids
occur in pore space. By using this range of techniques, it is possible to
quantify porosity, stabilize in-situ fluids in pore space, preserve the natural
structures at nm-scale, produce high quality polished cross-sections for high
resolution SEM imaging and reconstruct accurately microstructure networks in 3D
by serial cross sectioning
Teaching Reading Comprehension of Descriptive Text by Using Semantic Mapping
This research entitled Teaching Reading Comprehension of Descriptive text by Using Semantic Mapping. The purposes of this research are to find out the teaching learning process by using semantic mapping technique and how the technique improves students' ability on descriptive text. This research conducted by using Classroom Action Research (CAR). The researcher used observation table, field note and measurement test as tools of data collecting. This research conducted to 32 students of SMP Walisongo Pontianak. The result showed that the learning process of reading comprehension of descriptive text by using semantic mapping has run as the procedures. The students and teacher played their roles pretty well in first cycle and better in the second cycle. This technique has improved students' ability in comprehending descriptive text. The improvements are comprehension of details information, words reference and vocabulary on the text
A STUDY ON THE TEACHING OF VOCABULARY THROUGH CARTOON FILM ENTITLED POCOYO
Abstract: The purpose of conducting this research is to discover the significance how effective is the using of cartoon film entitled “Pocoyo” on the teaching vocabulary to the playgroup students of KB-TK Bina Mulia. Based on the test result, the researcher discovered a good result that was shown by the mean score which was 61.3 (fair) increased to 85.3 (good). Further, the result of t-test calculation is 7.199. It is higher than t-table. Still, the teaching learning process through cartoon film entitle Pocoyo is very interesting for playgroup students. In this case, the use of cartoon film entitled Pocoyo can attract the students’ attention in learning vocabulary. The students were more confidence to say what they have watched and heard from cartoon film entitled Pocoyo. Thus, the writer draws the conclusion that the use of cartoon film entitled Pocoyo is effective in introducing vocabularies to the playgroup students of. Keyword: Vocabulary, Cartoon Film Entitled Abstrak: Tujuan melakukan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui signifikansi seberapa efektif adalah menggunakan film kartun berjudul "Pocoyo" pada pengajaran kosakata untuk siswa playgroup KB-TK Bina Mulia. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian, peneliti menemukan hasil yang baik yang ditunjukkan dengan skor rata-rata yang 61,3 (adil) meningkat menjadi 85,3 (baik). Selanjutnya, hasil perhitungan t-test adalah 7,199. Ini lebih tinggi dari t-tabel. Namun, proses belajar mengajar melalui film kartun berjudul Pocoyo sangat menarik bagi siswa playgroup. Dalam hal ini, penggunaan film kartun berjudul Pocoyo dapat menarik perhatian siswa dalam pembelajaran kosakata. Para siswa lebih percaya diri untuk mengatakan apa yang telah mereka menyaksikan dan mendengar dari film kartun berjudul Pocoyo. AUTHENTIC MATERIALS ENHANCE STUDENT’S WRITING ON DESCRIPTIVE TEXT
AbstractThe objective of the research is to enhancing student’s writing skill on descriptive text through authentic material to the Grade Eighth Students of SMP Negeri 3 Samalantan. Moreover, this research to solve the student’s problem in learning writing descriptive text. This research is a classroom action research using Kemmis and Taggrat procedure ; planning of action, implanting of action, observing and evaluation analysis and reflection. Triangulation approach administered as the technique of data analysis. The participants were students at the junior high school grade VIII of SMP N 3 Samalantan in academic year 2015/2016. The classroom action research conducted in three cycles, each cycle consists of two meeting. The result of the classroom action research obtained that the authentic material enhanced student’s ability in writing descriptive text. Authentic materials do not only increase the student’s achievement on writing descriptive text but also bring a joy full learning atmosphere. Moreover, the classroom activity became alife. DEVELOPING A LOCAL – CULTURAL CULINARY READING WORKBOOK FOR JASA BOGA MAJOR OF SMK NEGERI 5 PONTIANAK
Abstract : This study was to develop a local culture – based English reading workbook as the supplementary materials for the second year students of Jasa Boga major of SMK Negeri 5 Pontianak. The fundamental thought underlied this study was to support Jasa Boga students with expertise of English materials which relevant to their major. The workbook was developed within five phases of : Analisys; Design; Development; Implementation; and Evaluation (ADDIE). The data were gathered from questionnaires, interview, checklists, and fieldnotes. From the findings, it is indicated that the workbook is worth using in terms of its usability and relevancy. The positive responses given by the students, teacher, and validators towards the materials and the texts readability calculations proved these. In short, this study has succeeded developing a qualified reading workbook for Jasa Boga students as the supplementary materials for fulfilling in their needs. Key words : Local Culture, Reading Workbook, “Jasa Boga” Abstrak : Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan lembar kerja siswa Bahasa Inggris yang berdasarkan budaya lokal sebagai materi pelengkap untuk siswa kelas dua jurusan Jasa Boga SMK Negeri 5 Pontianak. Pikiran dasar dari penelitian ini bermaksud untuk mendukung siswa jurusan Jasa Boga dengan materi keahlian yang menggunakan Bahasa Inggris yang sesuai dengan jurusan mereka. Buku kerja ini dikembangkan dalam lima fase, yaitu Analisys, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation (ADDIE). Data penelitian diperoleh dari kuisioner, wawancara, ceklis, catatan lapangan, dan validasi. Dari hasil penelitian, ditemukan bahwa buku kerja ini layak untuk digunakan karena kepraktisan dan relevansinya. Respon positif yang diberikan siswa, guru, dan validator terhadap materi, serta perhitingan keterbacaan teks membuktikan hal tersebut. Secara ringkas, penelitian ini telah berhasil mengembangkan sebuah lembar kerja siswa untuk siswa jurusan Jasa Boga sebagai materi pelengkap untuk memenuhi kebutuhan mereka akan materi khusus berbahasa Inggris.
