    Cubic vertex-transitive non-Cayley graphs of order 12p

A graph is said to be {\em vertex-transitive non-Cayley} if its full automorphism group acts transitively on its vertices and contains no subgroups acting regularly on its vertices. In this paper, a complete classification of cubic vertex-transitive non-Cayley graphs of order 12p12p, where pp is a prime, is given. As a result, there are 1111 sporadic and one infinite family of such graphs, of which the sporadic ones occur when p=5p=5, 77 or 1717, and the infinite family exists if and only if p1 (mod4)p\equiv1\ (\mod 4), and in this family there is a unique graph for a given order.Comment: This paper has been accepted for publication in SCIENCE CHINA Mathematic

Unconventional Superconducting Symmetry in a Checkerboard Antiferromagnet

We use a renormalized mean field theory to study the Gutzwiller projected BCS states of the extended Hubbard model in the large UU limit, or the tt-tt'-JJ-JJ' model on a two-dimensional checkerboard lattice. At small t/tt'/t, the frustration due to the diagonal terms of tt' and JJ' does not alter the dx2y2d_{x^2-y^2}-wave pairing symmetry, and the negative (positive) t/tt'/t enhances (suppresses) the pairing order parameter. At large t/tt'/t, the ground state has an extended s-wave symmetry. At the intermediate t/tt'/t, the ground state is d+idd+id or d+isd+is-wave with time reversal symmetry broken.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figure

The Yeast GSK-3 Homologue Mck1 Is a Key Controller of Quiescence Entry and Chronological Lifespan.

Upon starvation for glucose or any other core nutrient, yeast cells exit from the mitotic cell cycle and acquire a set of G0-specific characteristics to ensure long-term survival. It is not well understood whether or how cell cycle progression is coordinated with the acquisition of different G0-related features during the transition to stationary phase (SP). Here, we identify the yeast GSK-3 homologue Mck1 as a key regulator of G0 entry and reveal that Mck1 acts in parallel to Rim15 to activate starvation-induced gene expression, the acquisition of stress resistance, the accumulation of storage carbohydrates, the ability of early SP cells to exit from quiescence, and their chronological lifespan. FACS and microscopy imaging analyses indicate that Mck1 promotes mother-daughter cell separation and together with Rim15, modulates cell size. This indicates that the two kinases coordinate the transition-phase cell cycle, cell size and the acquisition of different G0-specific features. Epistasis experiments place MCK1, like RIM15, downstream of RAS2 in antagonising cell growth and activating stress resistance and glycogen accumulation. Remarkably, in the ras2∆ cells, deletion of MCK1 and RIM15 together, compared to removal of either of them alone, compromises respiratory growth and enhances heat tolerance and glycogen accumulation. Our data indicate that the nutrient sensor Ras2 may prevent the acquisition of G0-specific features via at least two pathways. One involves the negative regulation of the effectors of G0 entry such as Mck1 and Rim15, while the other likely to involve its functions in promoting respiratory growth, a phenotype also contributed by Mck1 and Rim15.This work was funded by a scholarship from Lucy Cavendish College (ZQ) and a scholarship awarded by National University of Defense Technology of China (LC). BACKGROUND: Percutaneous vertebroplasy (PVP) might lead to significant radiation exposure to patients, operators, and operating room personnel. Therefore, radiaton exposure is a concern. The aim of this study was to present a remote control cement delivery device and study whether it can reduce dose exposue to operators. METHODS: After meticulous preoperative preparation, a series of 40 osteoporosis patients were treated with unilateral approach PVP using the new cement delivery divice. We compared levels of fluoroscopic exposure to operator standing on different places during operation. group A: operator stood about 4 meters away from X-ray tube behind the lead sheet. group B: operator stood adjacent to patient as using conventional manual cement delivery device. RESULTS: During whole operation process, radiation dose to the operator (group A) was 0.10 ± 0.03 (0.07-0.15) μSv, group B was 12.09 ± 4.67 (10–20) μSv. a difference that was found to be statistically significant (P < 0.001) between group A and group B. CONCLUSION: New cement delivery device plus meticulous preoperative preparation can significantly decrease radiation dose to operators

Global Optimization of Minority Game by Smart Agents

We propose a new model of minority game with so-called smart agents such that the standard deviation and the total loss in this model reach the theoretical minimum values in the limit of long time. The smart agents use trail and error method to make a choice but bring global optimization to the system, which suggests that the economic systems may have the ability to self-organize into a highly optimized state by agents who are forced to make decisions based on inductive thinking for their limited knowledge and capabilities. When other kinds of agents are also present, the experimental results and analyses show that the smart agent can gain profits from producers and are much more competent than the noise traders and conventional agents in original minority game.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
