Learning and Matching Multi-View Descriptors for Registration of Point Clouds
Critical to the registration of point clouds is the establishment of a set of
accurate correspondences between points in 3D space. The correspondence problem
is generally addressed by the design of discriminative 3D local descriptors on
the one hand, and the development of robust matching strategies on the other
hand. In this work, we first propose a multi-view local descriptor, which is
learned from the images of multiple views, for the description of 3D keypoints.
Then, we develop a robust matching approach, aiming at rejecting outlier
matches based on the efficient inference via belief propagation on the defined
graphical model. We have demonstrated the boost of our approaches to
registration on the public scanning and multi-view stereo datasets. The
superior performance has been verified by the intensive comparisons against a
variety of descriptors and matching methods
The Minimal Solution to the mu/B_mu Problem in Gauge Mediation
We provide a minimal solution to the mu/B_mu problem in the gauge mediated
supersymmetry breaking by introducing a Standard Model singlet filed S with a
mass around the messenger scale which couples to the Higgs and messenger
fields. This singlet is nearly supersymmetric and acquires a relatively small
Vacuum Expectation Value (VEV) from its radiatively generated tadpole term.
Consequently, both mu and B_mu parameters receive the tree-level and one-loop
contributions, which are comparable due to the small S VEV. Because there
exists a proper cancellation in such two kinds of contributions to B_mu, we can

Intensive expression of Bmi-1 is a new independent predictor of poor outcome in patients with ovarian carcinoma
Background: It has been suggested that the B-cell specific moloney leukemia virus insertion site 1 (Bmi-1) gene plays an oncogenic role in several types of human cancer, but the status of Bmi-1 amplification and expression in ovarian cancer and its clinical/prognostic significance are unclear.Methods: The methods of immunohistochemistry and fluorescence in situ hybridization were utilized to examine protein expression and amplification of Bmi-1 in 30 normal ovaries, 30 ovarian cystadenomas, 40 borderline ovarian tumors and 179 ovarian carcinomas.Results: Intensive expression of Bmi-1 was detected in none of the normal ovaries, 3% cystadenomas, 10% borderline tumors, and 37% ovarian carcinomas, respectively. Amplification of Bmi-1 was detected in 8% of ovarian carcinomas. In ovarian carcinomas, significant positive associations were found between intensive expression of Bmi-1 and the tumors ascending histological grade, later pT/pN/pM and FIGO stages (P < 0.05). In univariate survival analysis of the ovarian carcinoma cohorts, a significant association of intensive expression of Bmi-1 with shortened patient survival (mean 49.3 months versus 100.3 months, p < 0.001) was demonstrated. Importantly, Bmi-1 expression provided significant independent prognostic parameters in multivariate analysis (p = 0.005).Conclusions: These findings provide evidence that intensive expression of Bmi-1 might be important in the acquisition of an invasive and/or aggressive phenotype of ovarian carcinoma, and serve as a independent biomarker for shortened survival time of patients. © 2010 Yang et al; licensee BioMed Central Ltd.published_or_final_versio
Form Factors in N=4 Super Yang-Mills and Periodic Wilson Loops
We calculate form factors of half-BPS operators in N=4 super Yang-Mills
theory at tree level and one loop using novel applications of recursion
relations and unitarity. In particular, we determine the expression of the
one-loop form factors with two scalars and an arbitrary number of
positive-helicity gluons. These quantities resemble closely the MHV scattering
amplitudes, including holomorphicity of the tree-level form factor, and the
expansion in terms of two-mass easy box functions of the one-loop result. Next,
we compare our result for these form factors to the calculation of a particular
periodic Wilson loop at one loop, finding agreement. This suggests a novel

Factorization and resummation of s-channel single top quark production
In this paper we study the factorization and resummation of s-channel single
top quark production in the Standard Model at both the Tevatron and the LHC. We
show that the production cross section in the threshold limit can be factorized
into a convolution of hard function, soft function and jet function via
soft-collinear-effective-theory (SCET), and resummation can be performed using
renormalization group equation in the momentum space resummation formalism. We
find that in general, the resummation effects enhance the Next-to-Leading-Order
(NLO) cross sections by about at both the Tevatron and the LHC, and
significantly reduce the factorization scale dependence of the total cross
section at the Tevatron, while at the LHC we find that the factorization scale

Analytic two-loop form factors in N=4 SYM

RG-improved single-particle inclusive cross sections and forward-backward asymmetry in production at hadron colliders
We use techniques from soft-collinear effective theory (SCET) to derive
renormalization-group improved predictions for single-particle inclusive (1PI)
observables in top-quark pair production at hadron colliders. In particular, we
study the top-quark transverse-momentum and rapidity distributions, the
forward-backward asymmetry at the Tevatron, and the total cross section at
NLO+NNLL order in resummed perturbation theory and at approximate NNLO in fixed
order. We also perform a detailed analysis of power corrections to the leading
terms in the threshold expansion of the partonic hard-scattering kernels. We
conclude that, although the threshold expansion in 1PI kinematics is
susceptible to numerically significant power corrections, its predictions for
the total cross section are in good agreement with those obtained by
integrating the top-pair invariant-mass distribution in pair invariant-mass
kinematics, as long as a certain set of subleading terms appearing naturally

Genome-wide association study identifies loci associated with liability to alcohol and drug dependence that is associated with variability in reward-related ventral striatum activity in African- and European-Americans.
Genetic influences on alcohol and drug dependence partially overlap, however, specific loci underlying this overlap remain unclear. We conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of a phenotype representing alcohol or illicit drug dependence (ANYDEP) among 7291 European-Americans (EA; 2927 cases) and 3132 African-Americans (AA: 1315 cases) participating in the family-based Collaborative Study on the Genetics of Alcoholism. ANYDEP was heritable (h 2 in EA = 0.60, AA = 0.37). The AA GWAS identified three regions with genome-wide significant (GWS; P < 5E-08) single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) on chromosomes 3 (rs34066662, rs58801820) and 13 (rs75168521, rs78886294), and an insertion-deletion on chromosome 5 (chr5:141988181). No polymorphisms reached GWS in the EA. One GWS region (chromosome 1: rs1890881) emerged from a trans-ancestral meta-analysis (EA + AA) of ANYDEP, and was attributable to alcohol dependence in both samples. Four genes (AA: CRKL, DZIP3, SBK3; EA: P2RX6) and four sets of genes were significantly enriched within biological pathways for hemostasis and signal transduction. GWS signals did not replicate in two independent samples but there was weak evidence for association between rs1890881 and alcohol intake in the UK Biobank. Among 118 AA and 481 EA individuals from the Duke Neurogenetics Study, rs75168521 and rs1890881 genotypes were associated with variability in reward-related ventral striatum activation. This study identified novel loci for substance dependence and provides preliminary evidence that these variants are also associated with individual differences in neural reward reactivity. Gene discovery efforts in non-European samples with distinct patterns of substance use may lead to the identification of novel ancestry-specific genetic markers of risk
