Leveraging higher salaries for nursing faculty

The nursing faculty pay scale at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, has increased significantly over the past 5 years. This increase was driven by a number of factors: (a) the rapidly expanding population in Nevada, (b) the nursing shortage and the Nevada legislative mandate to double nursing enrollment in state schools, (c) the national nursing faculty shortage, and (d) the opening of private nursing schools in Nevada. This article describes how, given these factors, the faculty members were able to leverage a pay scale that is finally competitive with clinical appointments

Student stress and academic performance: Home hospital program

The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether nursing students assigned to a home hospital experience less stress and improved academic performance. Students were assigned to a home hospital clinical placement (n = 78) or a control clinical placement (n = 79). Stress was measured using the Student Nurse Stress Index (SNSI) and Spielberger’s State Anxiety Inventory. Academic performance included score on the RN CAT, a standardized mock NCLEX-RN®-type test; nursing grade point average; and first attempt pass-fail on the NCLEX-RN. There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups for age, gender, marital status, ethnicity, or score on the nurse entrance examination. There were significant changes in SNSI over time but not between groups. Academic load and state anxiety showed an interaction of time by group, with the home hospital group showing reductions over time, compared with the control group

AbstractBiofeedback (BF) techniques were developed by psychology in the 1960s having then a long history in which they have proved their usefulness and therapeutic efficacy in a considerable variety of clinical disorders: neurologic, neuromuscular, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, chronic pain, dermatological, sleep, respiratory, trauma and stress, among many other disorders. Practical applications of the BF include in particular Electroencephalographic Biofeedback (BF-EEG), known as Neurofeedback (NF), whose importance and clinical applications have grown and continue to grow rapidly thanks to the significant development in the fields of neuroscience and computer science on which NF rests. This paper describes and analyzes the technique and process of BF and NF, apart from their methodological foundations but, above all, from a critical point of view, the paper examines their main clinical applications together with the level of utility and therapeutic effectiveness currently achieved

Understanding How Displacement Affects Hiv Prevalence Among Displaced Populations- A Scoping Review

Over the course of the past two decades, the number of people who have been displaced has increased dramatically. With this brings a new set of health challenges for these populations as well as the countries to which these populations are displaced such as HIV/AIDS. There is evidence to show that forced displacement can cause an increase in the HIV prevalence among those displaced. However, there is evidence to suggest the contrary, as well. The aim of this scoping review study is to determine what the existing literature can and cannot tell us about how forced displacement affects HIV prevalence among those displaced. With this better understanding of existing literature, further research can be planned more effectively to fill in existing gaps. A scoping review protocol was developed and two databases, PubMed and Medline, were scanned for articles that met the inclusion criteria. In total, 636 article titles and abstracts were scanned and of these, 85 articles were read in full and 25 were deemed to meet the inclusion criteria. Analysis of the extracted data revealed a potential influence of the HIV prevalence of the country being fled to and the HIV prevalence of the displaced group. If the HIV prevalence of a country or region was high, the HIV prevalence of displaced groups fleeing to these regions were higher. The same trend was seen with HIV low regions and a lower HIV prevalence in displaced groups. The scoping review also showed a lack of proper studies having been done to answer this particular question. There was also a lack of studies of certain regions of the world regarding HIV prevalence among displaced populations such as the Middle East and Central and Southern America. In order to answer this question more effectively, a longitudinal study of a fixed population should be done to determine how forced displacement affects HIV prevalence among those displaced

This study aimed to investigate university students' perspectives regarding the implementation of classroom debating strategies to enhance speaking skills. This study employed a descriptive qualitative methodology involving the distribution of questionnaires, conducting interviews, and gathering documentation. To assess the data, the researcher employed a 5-point Likert scale, which contained twenty items in the questionnaire and five questions during the interview session. Thirty-six respondents completed a full questionnaire, while eight students participated in an interview session with detailed questions. The findings of this study indicate that university students possess favorable attitudes regarding the utilization of classroom debate strategies to enhance their speaking skills. The debate effectively motivated students to enhance their speaking skills and improve several elements of speaking, including vocabulary, pronunciation, fluency, comprehension, and grammar. University students encounter numerous hurdles in executing classroom debating strategies, including difficulties in defining the motion, articulating reasons, formulating rebuttals to opponents' arguments, structuring logical and coherent discourse, and managing uneasiness and anxiety during presentations

The research study analyzed the structure of debater’s argument using Toulmin Model of Argumentation (1989). The research also adopted the Graphical Argument Analysis proposed by Homer-Dixon and Karapin to examine the relations among the elements and the plausibility of students arguments in the debate. The transcript argumentwas analyzed using qualitative method under the motion This House Would Legalize Marijuana in Canada. The writer found five elements in debater’s argument structure namely claim, data, warrant, backing, and rebuttal elements. There are also relations such claim, data, warrant, backing, and rebuttal relations. Finally, this study revealed that the Negative Team as a team that has the most plausible arguments over the Affirmative Team. This study provides understanding, criticism, and improvement of debaters arguments. It is hoped to be useful by a wide range of people and especially those who are affected by arguments such as academic writers, students, teachers and debate adjudicators

This study aims to analyze whether the differentiation strategy, market orientation, price perception on competitive advantage in the ShopeeFood marketplace at Maarif Hasyim Latif University students. In this study using quantitative research methods. This research was conducted on students of Maarif Hasyim Latif University, Faculty of Economics with a population of 541 students. The sampling technique of this research uses purposive sampling. The study uses multiple linear regression data analysis techniques. The results of this study show, the differentiation strategy partially has a positive and insignificant effect on competitive advantage, market orientation partially has a positive and significant effect on competitive advantage, price perception has a positive and significant effect on competitive advantage, differentiation strategy, market orientation, and price perception simultaneously have a positive and significant effect on competitive advantage. The implications this research it is hoped that ShopeeFood will pay more attention to the factors affect its competitive advantage. This allows ShopeeFood to implement the right strategy to maximize profit growth
