A total of 3528 specimens of freshwater turtles belonging to two families viz., Geoemydidae (brown river turtle, Kachuga smithi; Indian saw-backed turtle, K. tecta; Brahminy river turtle, Hardella thurgi; spotted pond turtle, Geoclemys hamiltonii) and Trionychidae (Indian soft-shell turtle, Aspederates gangeticus; peacock soft-shell turtle, A. hurum; narrow-headed soft-shell turtle, Chitra indica; Indian flap-shell turtle, Lissemys punciata) were identified. Kachuga smithi (43.62%) and K. tecta (42.06%) had abundant population status, whereas, Hardella thurgi (0.88%) and Chitra indica (0.54%) were rare. Capturing of turtles for supply to foreigners and export is a major threat to these animals. Fishermen also kill them during fishing. Canal closure and de-silting is also harmful to turtles. It is concluded that it is necessary to provide immediate legal protection/coverage to all turtle species under the Punjab Wildlife Act, 1974, Pakistan; otherwise turtle species will become extinct

Economic impact of energy saving techniques in cloud server

    Get PDF
In recent years, lot of research has been carried in the field of cloud computing and distributed systems to investigate and understand their performance. Economic impact of energy consumption is of major concern for major companies. Cloud Computing companies (Google, Yahoo, Gaikai, ONLIVE, Amazon and eBay) use large data centers which are comprised of virtual computers that are placed globally and require a lot of power cost to maintain. Demand for energy consumption is increasing day by day in IT firms. Therefore, Cloud Computing companies face challenges towards the economic impact in terms of power costs. Energy consumption is dependent upon several factors, e.g., service level agreement, virtual machine selection techniques, optimization policies, workload types etc. We address a solution for the energy saving problem by enabling dynamic voltage and frequency scaling technique for gaming data centers. The dynamic voltage and frequency scaling technique is compared against non-power aware and static threshold detection techniques. This helps service providers to meet the quality of service and quality of experience constraints by meeting service level agreements. The CloudSim platform is used for implementation of the scenario in which game traces are used as a workload for testing the technique. Selection of better techniques can help gaming servers to save energy cost and maintain a better quality of service for users placed globally. The novelty of the work provides an opportunity to investigate which technique behaves better, i.e., dynamic, static or non-power aware. The results demonstrate that less energy is consumed by implementing a dynamic voltage and frequency approach in comparison with static threshold consolidation or non-power aware technique. Therefore, more economical quality of services could be provided to the end users

    Get PDF
Nowadays, retailers of highly demanded products such as fashion goods and high technology electronic devices (smart phone) are aggressively competing with one another in order to increase revenue and to maintain their position in the market place. Rapid introduction of new smart phone into the market has resulted in shorter product life cycle and intensified competition, which force retailers to enhance their strategic management and creates competitive advantages. The challenge is in designing a suitable pricing strategy and discount offerings. Thus, the aim of this research is to develop a dynamic model to understand the relations between factors influencing the discount-pricing decision, to analyze performance of the discount-pricing strategy and to present an insight on the effects of the strategy implemented. Hence, to help achieve all the purposes, system dynamics approach is chosen to model the discount-pricing strategy for new smart phone. System dynamics modelling simulates the behavior of complex systems over time. Data used in the research is collected from literature review and email interview. The email interview focuses on the information of discount-pricing strategy normally used by retailers. The simulation results show that the value of cumulative sales within introduction phase is the highest as compared to other phases. Based on the survey, it is proposed that suitable discount level to be offered for new smart phone ranges from 10 to 30. Furthermore, the study suggests that retailers can start a discount promotion early of the month of new smart phone released and, in addition, the discount-pricing strategy model of new smart phone is also produced as one of contribution of this study

The paper attempts to investigate the relationship between savings and Economic growth of Pakistan by using the time series data from 1972 to 2015. For empirical analysis, ordinary least square method is used. The analysis is made in two parts. In the first part; descriptive statistics and correlation matrix are described. In second part, multivariate analysis explains how saving of Pakistan is determined by economic growth. This study concludes that the employed labor force, gross fixed capital formation and exchange rate have positive and significant influence on real gross domestic product. Foreign direct investment and gross domestic savings have negative but insignificant impact on real gross domestic product. Keeping in view the role of savings and economic growth in Pakistan. It is recommended that government should provide enabling environment and fiscal incentives for enhancing the foreign direct investment. This will increase the gross domestic product in the country. For this purpose, the industrial and agricultural sectors of the country must be stable. Moreover, there is a need of creating an investment friendly business environment in Pakistan

This study aims to examine the impact of Corporate Governance (CG) and Intellectual Capital (IC) on financial performance in banks listed in Pakistan stock exchange. Due to the different scope of business, the banks are dived into two groups - Commercial banks and Microfinance & investment banks, and analyzed their data separately. We have used Generalized Least Squared (GLS) model to examine the impact of Corporate Governance and Intellectual Capital, and then impact of Intellectual capital on financial performance. The results show that Corporate Governance has significant impact on intellectual capital in both groups of banks. Board ownership has positive significant coefficient only in case of microfinance & investment banks, while Board size and Board independence significantly improve intellectual capital efficiency in case of both types of banks. Human capital efficiency significantly effects financial performance in Microfinance and investment banks, whereas commercial banks improve their financial performance through structural capital efficiency

Ten years ago, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) adopted the idea of "good governance" as a set of governing principles to help them achieve their goals in the member countries of each organization. Presently, these establishments are experiencing increasing demands to uphold similar degrees of transparency, engagement, and accessibility. This paper examines the challenges encountered by these organizations and evaluates the tactics they have employed to facilitate the exchange of information and establish connections with non-governmental organizations (NGOs). This paper investigates the particular challenges faced by these institutions. This paper argues that conducting an investigation into reforms pertaining to the constitutional requirements, decision-making process, balance of stakeholder rights, and expertise and knowledge of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is essential for promoting "good governance" at these institutions. Furthermore, this study argues that it is crucial to examine any changes to the proficiency and expertise of the IMF and World Bank in order to foster the advancement of "good governance" inside these organizations.
