The RJ style: brought to you by Bangladeshi FM radio
This article was published in Stamford Journal of English [© 2011 Stamford Journal of English] and the definite version is available at : http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/sje.v6i0.13899 The article website is at: http://www.banglajol.info/index.php/SJE/article/view/13899In recent years, the popularity of FM Radio stations has brought a unique change in speech style among the Bangladeshi youth. This paper compares the views of both the Radio Jockeys (RJ) and the young listeners to find out to what extent this phenomenon of RJ Speech influences the speech of the youth. The authors of the paper have selected 110 tertiary students randomly to collect their opinions through a questionnaire. Besides, seven RJs of four radio stations were interviewed and recordings of different programmes of the four FM radio stations were analysed to trace the new slang words and pronunciations used in this new style of speaking. The findings show that the young listeners think that they use this style both consciously and unconsciously. They sometimes take up this obviously “made up accent” to become a part of the popular and stylish group of friends on campus. On the other hand, the RJs do not want to admit that they are adversely influencing standard Bangla. They claim that it is up to the listeners to take the good or bad part of a programme and RJs will always adhere to their unique style.Publishe
An experimental study of hyper-heuristic selection and acceptance mechanism for combinatorial t-way test suite generation
Recently, many meta-heuristic algorithms have been proposed to serve as the basis of a t -way test generation strategy (where t indicates the interaction strength) including Genetic Algorithms (GA), Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), Simulated Annealing (SA), Cuckoo Search (CS), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), and Harmony Search (HS). Although useful, metaheuristic algorithms that make up these strategies often require specific domain knowledge in order to allow effective tuning before good quality solutions can be obtained. Hyperheuristics provide an alternative methodology to meta-heuristics which permit adaptive selection and/or generation of meta-heuristics automatically during the search process. This paper describes our experience with four hyper-heuristic selection and acceptance mechanisms namely Exponential Monte Carlo with counter (EMCQ), Choice Function (CF), Improvement Selection Rules (ISR), and newly developed Fuzzy Inference Selection (FIS),using the t -way test generation problem as a case study. Based on the experimental results, we offer insights on why each strategy differs in terms of its performance
Electro-generated Chemiluminescent Determination of Methotrexate in Pharmaceutical Preparations by Tris (2,2-bipyridine)ruthenium(II) Using Flow Injection
A novel electro-generated chemiluminescence method for the determination of methotrexate (2,4-diamino-N10-methyl pteroyl glutamic acid) in pharmaceutical formulations is proposed. The method was based on the chemiluminescence (CL) emission intensity produced as a result of the electrochemical oxidation of the nbspinto the active nbspform, which then reacts with the methotrexate and produces light.nbspReaction variables were thoroughly investigated. The optimum conditions were incorporated in the procedure. Linear calibration curve were obtained for signal in mV versus concentration in mol L1 in the range 0-21times107 M with percentage relative standard deviation of less than 2% (n = 6) and correlation coefficient of r = 0.99986. The method described here proved to be very convenient and easy to use for the assay of methotrexate in drug formulations. This method was tested by the determination of methotrexate in different drugs containing known concentration
Thermal Analysis of Bovine Bone Drilling
In medical practices, high speed surgical drills are usually used when drilling the
screws into the fracture bones. The friction between the drill bit and the bone during the
drilling process will generate heat. This heat then will produce the thermal necrosis into
the bone. Parameters involve in heat generation are spindle speed, drill bit diameter, drill
bit point angle, feed rate, and the bone's properties. The focus will be on the setup of the
experiment test rig to perform the bovine bone drilling and the thermal analysis of this
experiment using ANSYS. The principles of heat transfer mechanism and complex
thermo-mechanical equation from the machining theory will be used alongside
anisotropic properties of the bone. This project will look into the problem of high heat
generation during drilling process and the process pararneters that will control the drilling
temperature. Drilling tests were performed on mild steel cylinder bar and bovine bone
femur. The effect of spindle speed and feed rate on the temperature was explored. The
temperature during drilling is linearly increases with the depth of the specimen
