In eastern Nevada and western Utah is an extensive terrane that has experienced a complex tectonic history of Mesozoic deformation and superposed Tertiary extension. The Mesozoic tectonic history of this area has been the subject of controversy for the past twenty or more years. The debate has centered on whether major Mesozoic geologic structures were due to compressional or extensional tectonic regimes. The goal of our research was to decipher the deformational history of the area by combining detailed geologic mapping, remote sensing data analysis, and U-Pb and K-Ar geochronology. This study area includes the Dolly Varden Mountains and adjacent Currie Hills, located in the semi-arid environment of the northeastern Great Basin in Nevada. Vegetation cover in the Dolly Varden Mountains typically ranges from about 10 percent to 50 percent, with some places along drainages and on high, north-facing slopes where vegetation cover approaches 100 percent. Sagebrush is found at less vegetated lower elevations, whereas pinon pine and juniper are prevalent above 2,000 meters. A variety of geologic materials is exposed in the study area. A sequence of Late Paleozoic and Triassic sedimentary rocks includes limestone, dolomite, chert, sandstone, siltstone and shale. A two-phase granitic stock, called the Melrose, intruded these rocks, resulting in metamorphism along the intrusive contact. Tertiary volcanic rocks cover most of the eastern part of the Dolly Varden Mountains and low-lying areas in the Currie Hills

A Dynamic Analysis of Household Decision-Making: The Mexican Case

In this paper we analyze the evolution of family structure, human capital accumulation and returns, labor force participation and household consumption and savings decisions for Mexican households. We use as theoretical framework the Life Cycle Model. Our analysis is based on a synthetic panel technique as proposed by Browning, Deaton and Irish (1985) that allows us to track the average behavior of cohorts over successive surveys. Mexico went through important demographic and socioeconomic changes between the mid-1970s and mid-1980s, simultaneously with the government`s implementation of different policies as well as some institutional changes, including an important birth control program and the expansion of educational opportunities. A reduction in fertility and an increase in the schooling of women are observed simultaneously with an increase in women`s labor force participation. Most of this process is dominated by age and cohort effects. In terms of consumption-saving decisions, we find that this reduction in the number of children and the increase in women`s labor force participation, reinforced by higher investment in education and higher rate of returns, have been correlated with higher saving rates for younger cohorts, particularly those where the head has higher educational levels.

Análisis de las penas asignadas en las ordenanzas de la corporación ganadera novohispana emitidas en 1574

En vista de que las normas se aprecian como reflejo de la realidad, su análisis resulta de gran ayuda, pues revela el conjunto de asuntos concretos a los que se les fijaba una solución mediante una variedad de instrumentos normativos, entre ellos están los mandamientos, bandos, autos acordados, instrucciones y ordenanzas4 que se han constituido en la fuente para el estudio de la Historia del Derecho novohispano.El estudio se enfoca en las sanciones establecidas en la Mesta novohispana, una corporación formada únicamente por los grandes señores del ganado. El tema se inicia con un panorama de la integración de esa agrupación, posteriormente se comenta la esfera de poder del juez mesteño, se continúa con el análisis de las distintas sanciones establecidas en las ordenanzas de 1574 y se concluye con la distribución de las multas. La delimitación geográfica contempla a la capital novohispana y al resto del territorio en donde se aplicaron los estatutos, la temporalidad comprende, principalmente, el siglo XVI. Uno de los recursos para identificar las manifestaciones del poder es el examen de los mecanismos de control con los que se regían los diferentes cuerpos políticos, siendo la Mesta uno de ellos. Disposiciones que debían ser respetadas por los individuos relacionados, directa o indirectamente, con la actividad pecuaria. Un medio práctico que se empleó para ejercer el dominio fue la sanción, a través de los distintos tipos de penas. Éstas se entienden como el castigo que impone la ley al delincuente por el daño que ocasionó su abuso

Educational quality from regulatory authorities of private higher education in Jalisco México

Este trabajo presenta los avances de la investigación cuyo objetivo es analizar a cuál concepto de calidad educativa se adhieren las instancias reguladoras de las instituciones de educación superior privadas en el estado de Jalisco. La búsqueda de la calidad educativa en la educación superior forma parte del desarrollo de la nación y actualmente existe una desarticulación de la administración pública federal y las entidades federativas, situación que se debe revertir, para fortalecer el vínculo entre las autoridades educativas. Reflexionar acerca de la actual desarticulación entre autoridades educativas reguladoras de las instituciones privadas, condujo al análisis de las dinámicas de cambio seguidas por éstas, las políticas educativas que han generado estos cambios y la necesidad de conocer qué significado tiene la calidad educativa en cada una de las instancias reguladoras y cómo lo manifiestan en sus modelos y estrategias de gestiónThis paper presents the advances of the research whose objective is to analyze to which concept of educational quality regulatory organizations of private higher education institutions in the state of Jalisco are adhered to. Adapa o la inmortalidad frustrada: reflexiones sobre el poema de Adapa

In the author's opinion the myth of Adapa tries simply to reflect the unavoidable necessity of a cosmos in perfect order and harmony, and one of the features of this order is the fair adaptation of the beings from this cosmos to its essential characteristics. This way while the gods enjoy the immortality, the men, on the other hand, are essentially mortal. The confrontation of the divinities Anu and Ea are in fact fictitious, it only completes a literary function, something like that as a lure for incautious. Anu only seemingly tried to deceive Adapa and in definitive to deceive Ea, since the god Ea only tried to save Adapa from an imminent death and not to contravene the cosmic order. This way he is not in conflict with Anu since this god knows very well that this order will be respected when Adapa rejects the offer of immortality previously warned by Ea. Así mientras los dioses gozan de la inmortalidad, los hombres, en cambio, son esencialmente mortales. El enfrentamiento de las divinidades Anu y Ea es en realidad ficticio, cumple únicamente una función literaria, algo así como un señuelo para incautos. Sólo aparentemente Anu trató de burlar a Adapa y en definitiva a Ea, ya que el dios Ea sólo intentaba salvar a Adapa de una muerte inminente y no contravenir el orden cósmico. De este modo no entra en conflicto con Anu ya que este dios sabe muy bien que este orden será respetado al rechazar Adapa la oferta de inmortalidad previamente avisado por Ea. Structural analysis and sintering aids effects in La2Ce2O7 proton conductors

Global warming is an important problem that has to be solved without delay. The development of environmental-friendly energy technology is needed to deal with this issue. Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) technology has been proposed as a real alternative to fossil fuel combustion. Proton conductors like La2Ce2O7 (LDC), has several advantages in comparison with BaCeO3 due to its high stability in H2O or CO2 conditions [1]. Furthermore, for industry application is necessary to low the high sintering temperature of typical electrolyte materials. La2Ce2O7 was synthesized by the freeze-drying precursor method and calcination conditions have been optimized to obtain single phase with high compaction at 1400 ºC for 1h. A fully characterization has been carried out using X-ray powder diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The total conductivity was determined by complex impedance spectroscopy in dry and wet air. Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) was used to clarify certainly the structure of La2Ce2O7 due to its still unknown. SAEDs patterns revealed a disordered fluorite, not appearing secondary reflections typical of pyrochlore superstructure, finishing the controversy around the correct structure in this material [2,3]. Moreover, an exhaustive study about lowering the sintering temperature with Co and Zn as sintering aids has been investigated obtaining electrolytes that can be used for SOFC. The sintering aids were impregnated using cobalt and zinc nitrates in ethanol media. Both sintering aids allow for obtain high dense pellets lowering the sintering temperature 300 ºC and 400 ºC for samples with cobalt and zinc, respectively, without compromising the electrical and microstructural properties (Fig 1).Universidad de Málaga.
