On Loops in the Hyperbolic Locus of the Complex H\'enon Map and Their Monodromies

We prove John Hubbard's conjecture on the topological complexity of the hyperbolic horseshoe locus of the complex H\'enon map. Indeed, we show that there exist several non-trivial loops in the locus which generate infinitely many mutually different monodromies. Our main tool is a rigorous computational algorithm for verifying the uniform hyperbolicity of chain recurrent sets. In addition, we show that the dynamics of the real H\'enon map is completely determined by the monodromy of a certain loop, providing the parameter of the map is contained in the hyperbolic horseshoe locus of the complex H\'enon map.Comment: 17 pages, 9 figures. Penerbitan modul pembangunan kemahiran generik berlandaskan origami

Kebanyakan majikan kini memerlukan pekerja yang bukan sahaja mempunyai kemahiran teknikal, tetapi juga memerlukan kemahiran generik untuk melaksanakan tugas yang diberikan untuk meningkatkan produktiviti dan daya saing. Walau bagaimanapun, kebanyakan graduan tidak bersedia untuk memenuhi keperluan aspek pekerjaan berpusatkan kemahiran generik seperti kemahiran kepimpinan, kemahiran komunikasi, kemahiran kerja berpasukan, kemahiran menyelesaikan masalah, kemahiran keusahawanan, pemikiran kritis dan kemahiran kreatif. Kajian telah dilaksanakan untuk origami yang berkaitan dengan peningkatan kemahiran generik dan mendedahkan maklum balas positif. Kajian ini telah menyusun semua proses yang berkaitan ke dalam satu modul rujukan. Tujuan kajian ini adalah untuk menilai kesesuaian modul disusun untuk penerbitan dan pengedaran. Para responden yang dipilih untuk kajian ini adalah seramai 40 guru dari Kolej Vokasional, Lebuh Cator, Ipoh, Perak. Instrumen dipatuhi diedarkan selepas kursus demonstrasi dan perbincangan kumpulan untuk menilai tahap persepsi terhadap kesesuaian modul untuk pembangunan kemahiran generik. Maklum balas yang diperolehi melalui soal selidik ini dianalisis menggunakan SPSS versi 16 untuk min dan sisihan piawai dari maklum balas responden. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa persepsi guru-guru terhadap kesesuaian modul yang tinggi dari segi format, kandungan, bahan-bahan pembelajaran dan aktiviti latihan. Beberapa cadangan telah dibuat pada akhir penyelidikan untuk meningkatkan kualiti modul bagi membangunkan kemahiran generik pada masa akan datang

Competition and Intervention in Sovereign Debt Markets

We investigate markets for defaultable sovereign debt in which even though there are many identical lenders and symmetric information (including no hidden actions), perfect competition does not obtain. When a private lender allows a sovereign country to increase its level of indebtedness, that lender implicitly imposes a default externality on others who have lent to that sovereign. That is, in the case where the borrower would be able to pay back the first loan in the absence of a second loan, the borrower may have a strong incentive to take both loans and default on both loans. When a lender has no control over the actions of other lenders, they must anticipate this behavior and devise a lending strategy that is consistent with the strategies not only of the sovereign borrower, but also of other lenders. We develop a model of this strategic lending behavior in the presence of default, and show that even though there are many competing lenders, the perfectly competitive outcome does not necessarily obtain. Moreover, the equilibrium can result in monopoly-like outcomes in prices and quantities. We also study the consequences of intervention in these markets by a seemingly benevolent international financial institution, and find that these interventions, though well-intentioned, can in some cases be welfare reducing for sovereign countries and welfare improving for private lenders.
