The Spatial Distribution of Mycenaean Tombs

Factors which determine the siting of Mycenaean cemeteries are discussed. These include relationship to roads; a prominent position, especially for some of the more imposing monuments; relationship to the ‘sacred landscape’. Within cemeteries clusters of graves occur. The small total number of these, it is suggested, represent political alliance groups rather than families. Further research is necessary before arriving at more definite conclusions.</jats:p
